ON THIS DAY - 25th October

1958, TONY MORRISS (#78) took 11-34 (5-5 & 6-29) for B grade v TAS. After rolling TAS for just 26 on the opening day with Nigel Richardson, Morris was just as deadly on the second day, Waratahs winning outright by an innings.

In 1986, GRAHAM FROST (#333) made 113 for 1st grade v Uralla. In a high scoring game, Frosty made sure Waratahs had too many on the first day for Uralla to chase.

In 2nd grade, the opening day against Uralla was one of batting slaughter. At the smaller Harris Park 2, Waratahs went on the rampage, scoring 7-491, the highest score by any Waratahs team in 2nd/A-Res grade. It all swung on a mammoth 238 run partnership between MATT CAMPBELL (#363) and DAVID LAWRENCE (#455) for the 3rd wicket. Both scored their only tons for Waratahs - Campbell 142 and Laurence 140. Strangely, it wouldn't be either a club or grade record. 2-174 at tea, the post-tea session saw Waratahs average 150 runs an hour, with the 15 minutes before drinks after Laurence fell, adding 62 and Uralla bowler Foster going for 26 in one over among his 7-0-84--0. The 3rd wicket has always been profitable for Waratahs in this grade, with four of the club's twelve double century stands scored there.

Armidale, Australia
The history of a proud club which grew men from boys through the simple act of trusting them with something very precious.

Favourite players: Life members: Alan Gray, Harry Deiderick, Graham Johnson, Ian Campbell, Syd Philp, Graham Patterson & Albert Hofkamp.

Favourite grounds: Wicklow Oval (Rologas Fields), Harris Park, West Armidale Park (Lambert Park), The Armidale Sportsground

All-time cricket hero: Any bloke in the Royal Blue cap.

Favourite bat: The one that scored the most.

Most memorable moment in cricket:
1952-53 A grade Final, beating Easts 2 outright after our worst A/1st grade total in the sixty year history of the club. Beat the very strong Uralla in the last round to just scrape into the semis and then Easts 1 in the Semi. Played one player short on the first day after a mix up with team sheets and made 163 in the sunshine, Ross Ridley 59. Easts 0-57 at stumps after four dropped catches. Didn't play the second day for two weeks because of the Armidale Show and then after four days of heavy rain. Wicket now a sticky and impossible to bat on. Easts all out for 95, Don Paul 6-24. Batting a second time, Waratahs still one short and Ridley now out injured, all out for 21. Easts needing 90 don't make it to halfway, all out for 43, Don Paul 7-20. Waratahs win their first premiership in only their third season.
