ON THIS DAY - 20th November
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | November 20, 2023
In 1955, D WATSON (#62) and JOE LEAHY (#4) had the completely unique distinction of recording a pair in the same game for Waratahs in the Andrew Shield game v Rugby League. The Andrew Shield was a "cock of the walk" competition played on a Sunday by arrangement where the winner is the holder until challenged and beaten. Matches were all day games played at any point in the season. The first innings fell apart rapidly after a 54 run opening partnership between Doug Johnstone and Alan Gray and then despite Vic Snell's fine unchanged spell, Waratahs went behind. During the mid afternoon, Waratahs fought their way back into the match, setting RL a target, during which Watson and Leahy achieved their distinction. K Devine narrowly avoided joining them with 1 & 0!

In 1965, COL MARSHALL (#102) bagged his best match figures of 13-73 (7-35 & 6-38) for A-Res grade v de la Salle College. It was the only time he took ten or more wickets in a match, despite four time taking seven or more in an innings. Only short details available of the match which Waratahs won by an innings and 25 runs.
DLSC 115 (Col Marshall 7-35) and 84 (Col Marshall 6-38, Dick Russell 3-33) ; Waratahs 224 (Allan Smith 50, Brendan McGee 49, Keith McIntyre 46, Greg Russell 21)
BILL THOMPSON (#185) held 3 catches in an innings for A grade v TAS.
In 1982, PETER TYNDALL (#423) made his only Waratahs hundred, for 3rd grade v TAS, batting most of the way through the innings. His dismissal triggered a collapse by the second half of the batting order. On the second day, TAS was in complete control - little wonder with players of the calibre of Jake Morse, Greg Johnson and Robert Pollard in the batting order.

Wicketkeeper MATT CAMPBELL (#363) held 3 catches in an innings for 2nd grade v Easts.
