In 1953, A grade made their highest team total, a 408 run afternoon at Lambert Park v the new club, Wests. Skipper FRED SKILLICORN (#31) and DON PAUL (#37) added a all grades record 207 for the 4th wicket, with Skillicorn (101) making the first Waratahs century and Paul's (96) being a near second. The wicket must have stayed true as Wests batted all afternoon on the second day in this high scoring draw. Cricket in 1952-53 was divided into two separate two day competitions to allow the schools and tertiary institutions to compete. A lack of two extra wickets relegated Waratahs into Runners Up despite being unbeaten.
