ON THIS DAY - 27th November
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | November 27, 2023
In 1954, VIC SNELL (#9 - pictured), the huge, club-footed publican, and Waratahs first enforcer with the new ball, took 7-28 for A grade v Armidale Teachers College. In a low scoring game, played through showers entirely on the second day after the first day was washed out, Snell was too much for the College boys. Making the ball lift dangerously off a length and at pace, he raced through the opposition. Remarkably, Ross Ridley performed a stumping, taking the ball at head height, standing up to the stumps.

In 1976, a very youthful TIM MULDOON (#296), still in short pants, took a hat trick for B grade v St Peters. According to the bowler he was "bloody quick and terrifying" and he and Michael Connolly made short work of the Saints.

St Peters 78 (Tim Muldoon 5-16, Michael Connolly 4-14); Waratahs 136 (Bruce Mathieson 36, Tim Muldoon 24x, Graham Frost 21. Peter Handebo 5-30)
In 1982, GRAHAM WILSON (#425) made history of his own with 90 for 2nd grade v Easts as Waratahs failed by just one run. It was Wilos highest score for Waratahs.

In 4th grade, GARETH PICKERING (#418) took career best figures of 7-62 as he and Jake Widders bowled Easts out. Widders made was the pick of the batsmen on the first day with 70, in an innings were David Santleben was in the runs.

In 1993, at the end of his Waratahs career, GRAHAM FROST (#333) was all class in becoming only the third player to twice pass 150, making 153 for 2nd grade v Uralla. He added 147 with Skipper ROGER ROAN (#176), also well into the twilight, for the 4th wicket. Waratahs made 375 ... and still lost. Uralla's reply of 2-401 was only the second time a Waratahs 2nd grade side had conceded four hundred. Uralla's Byron Whackett made a double.
