ON THIS DAY - 10th February
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | February 10, 2024
In 1951, Waratahs played their first A grade game, a match which they lost v Railway. Prof Tony Horadam was the star as five players made ducks in Waratahs 99.

In 1979, one of Waratahs favourite yarns of the era was spawned as STEVE READING (#322), always ready to talk up a big game, fired up against Uralla's newly returned Sydney first grader, Geoff Wood. Waratahs made 216 on the first day, thanks mainly to a good partnership mid innings by Bruce Mathieson and Graham Frost. On day two, Klink terrorised all concerned on the second, taking 7-41, five of them bowled, including Woody, whom he bounced with regular monotony. The legend never included the fact that Woody made 72 of Uralla's 147 but then, you don't ruin a good story with the facts.

In 1990, a nice father and son moment, when DANIEL RYAN (#514) and BEDE RYAN (#503) made 115 for the 5th wicket, both making 63, for 1st grade v Uralla, with Waratahs just hanging on for the win on the second day, when Phil Melville took 4-24 of twenty overs!

One from the new records ...
In 2002, MICHAEL TRUSWELL, Waratahs 800th player, scored 109 not out for 2nds v TAS. No scorecard available (yet).
