The Tahs (formerly Waratahs Cricket Club of Armidale)

Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | April 08, 2024

Ever wonder just how good you were? Wondered how you compared with the players from the past?

The Tahs gives you a chance to find out because by following this link Waratahs Individual Player Records you find all who played for Waratahs and what they did while doing so. There are two pages to the document - one for batting, one for bowling, with fielding details listed among the batting. Drop in and browse through the more than 800 players who pulled on the Baggy Royal Blue.

If you would like to join The Tahs, a phoenix rising from the Waratahs Cricket Club of Armidale, just follow this link The Tahs Membership Application and you'll be a member in 90 seconds. Its for anyone who played with or against Waratahs during their glorious 66 seasons in the Armidale District Cricket Association. Its for family members or supporters. Its for you if you want to keep in touch with both the memories of Waratahs and support The Ian Campbell Scholarship which will send an Armidale junior cricketer to a development camp every season - cherishing the game we played and ensuring others will create their own memories. Its what custodians do. Ian was a long time member of Waratahs who spent many summers once his time in 1st grade days were over, supporting and developing juniors in Waratahs ranks. His son James is one of our committee members.

Once a member, you can donate $40 towards the Ian Campbell Scholarship and receive one of the band new design Tahs caps (pictured), which is in the tradition of the Waratahs Baggy Royal Blue, with added red piping to distinguish from then to now. A look through the list of members should encourage to join with us as we get together for social catchups, supporting each other into our dotage with tales of just how bloody good we used to be! You might be surprised who you'll find on the list. The Tahs Membership List. Here's the Tahs Committee.

Armidale, Australia
The history of a proud club which grew men from boys through the simple act of trusting them with something very precious.

Favourite players: Life members: Alan Gray, Harry Deiderick, Graham Johnson, Ian Campbell, Syd Philp, Graham Patterson & Albert Hofkamp.

Favourite grounds: Wicklow Oval (Rologas Fields), Harris Park, West Armidale Park (Lambert Park), The Armidale Sportsground

All-time cricket hero: Any bloke in the Royal Blue cap.

Favourite bat: The one that scored the most.

Most memorable moment in cricket:
1952-53 A grade Final, beating Easts 2 outright after our worst A/1st grade total in the sixty year history of the club. Beat the very strong Uralla in the last round to just scrape into the semis and then Easts 1 in the Semi. Played one player short on the first day after a mix up with team sheets and made 163 in the sunshine, Ross Ridley 59. Easts 0-57 at stumps after four dropped catches. Didn't play the second day for two weeks because of the Armidale Show and then after four days of heavy rain. Wicket now a sticky and impossible to bat on. Easts all out for 95, Don Paul 6-24. Batting a second time, Waratahs still one short and Ridley now out injured, all out for 21. Easts needing 90 don't make it to halfway, all out for 43, Don Paul 7-20. Waratahs win their first premiership in only their third season.
