The Tahs - Late Winter Update

Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | August 15, 2024

G'day potential new members of Tahs.

With Spring approaching and On This Day soon to start on the Facebook page its a good time for a few reminders.

Have you joined yet? If you haven’t joined yet, you should follow the link and complete the application form. It takes 90 seconds and will provide us with bare contact details to contact you personally about club events/news. As we are a social club, membership does not conflict with membership of any cricket club and requires no clearance. It costs $2 but this will be included in your first donation to the Ian Campbell Fund (supporting an Armidale Junior cricketer in their development). We currently have more than 40 members, many are ex-Waratahs but a significant number are former opponents and some are partners/wives/family members of Waratahs players. Click/touch the following link to join. It’s about staying in touch.

The Tahs Membership Application

Only four months to go before the first official Club function of The Tahs Inc, our day out at the first day of the Brisbane Test between Aust and India, to be followed on the Sunday by a cruise and lunch on the Brisbane River on James Campbell's "Island Princess". Get your Test match tickets here so we can make sure we sit together as a group. Open the event below and you'll see a link to purchase your tickets. Currently 18 attending including Andrew Davis, Peter Langston, Bob & Adam Barwick, Martin Campbell, Simon Joyce, Stu McFarlan, Mark Dymock, James Campbell, Andrew McNeill, Graham Frost, Michael Connolly, Melissa Davis, Ben Campbell and Daniel Ryan. Here's the link for tickets ...

Tickets for Day One in Brisbane - Aust v India ($85)

The Sunday cruise on the Brisbane River is being provided at a heavily reduced price (C'tee still to decide details). Here's a sample of what you can expect.

Cruise on the Island Princess with James Campbell

The new Club cap is now available to all (previously priority was for members). If you would like to support the Ian Campbell Fund, which will provide funds to an Armidale junior cricketer (boy or girl) to develop their cricket skill and knowledge, then spending $40 and getting the new Royal Baggy Blue will be the best place to start. If this is your first donation, it will also include your exorbitant club membership fee of $2.

The Tahs Cap $40

Go to the Waratahs CC of Armidale/The Tahs Facebook page for all the latest on club activities. We now have more than 40 members!

If you want to look up stats or for more in depth info about the days of Waratahs, try the Waratahs CC of Armidale website.

That should be enough to keep you busy for a bit!

About Me

Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs)

Founder
Waratahs CC of Armidale; The Tahs Inc
www.thetahs.com.au
Armidale, Australia
The history of a proud club which grew men from boys through the simple act of trusting them with something very precious.

Favourite players: Life members: Alan Gray, Harry Deiderick, Graham Johnson, Ian Campbell, Syd Philp, Graham Patterson & Albert Hofkamp.

Favourite grounds: Wicklow Oval (Rologas Fields), Harris Park, West Armidale Park (Lambert Park), The Armidale Sportsground

All-time cricket hero: Any bloke in the Royal Blue cap.

Favourite bat: The one that scored the most.

Most memorable moment in cricket:
1952-53 A grade Final, beating Easts 2 outright after our worst A/1st grade total in the sixty year history of the club. Beat the very strong Uralla in the last round to just scrape into the semis and then Easts 1 in the Semi. Played one player short on the first day after a mix up with team sheets and made 163 in the sunshine, Ross Ridley 59. Easts 0-57 at stumps after four dropped catches. Didn't play the second day for two weeks because of the Armidale Show and then after four days of heavy rain. Wicket now a sticky and impossible to bat on. Easts all out for 95, Don Paul 6-24. Batting a second time, Waratahs still one short and Ridley now out injured, all out for 21. Easts needing 90 don't make it to halfway, all out for 43, Don Paul 7-20. Waratahs win their first premiership in only their third season.
