Anthony Telfer in The Clubhouse with Phillip Melville and Will Harding - Northern Districts Special Olympics Program
Spirit of Cricket | June 04, 2023
Every now and then I get to do something special with the Spirit of Cricket and tonight will be another water shed moment.
Join us in the Club House for an inspiring discussion with Phillip Melville, great mate & Coach of the Northern Districts Special Olympics Program, and Will Harding participant, as we delve into the incredible successes being achieved.
Phillip Melville, a current NSW O50’s player and representative of Australia at O50’s level, leads this remarkable program. We'll explore how the Northern District Cricket Club has been fostering a love for the game among individuals with intellectual disabilities since 2008, in partnership with Special Olympics.
But that's not all! We're thrilled to have Will Harding, a passionate attendee of the Special Olympics at the Mark Taylor Oval for the past 10 years, join us too. Will's enthusiasm for cricket knows no bounds! Not only is he the current Manager for Manly Seconds Premier Club, which clinched last season's Premiers title in the Sydney Premier Cricket Association, but he also supports Chelsea Football Club in England and the Sydney Swans & Manly Sea Eagles at home. And with his British roots, you can bet he'll be cheering for the Poms in the upcoming Ashes series!
The Northern District Cricket Club's commitment to inclusivity extends beyond their All Abilities Cricket Program. They've recently partnered with BlowFly Cricket and other esteemed organizations like Cricket NSW and the Sydney Sixes to establish the Woolworths Cricket Junior/Master Blaster inclusion program. This initiative provides boys and girls aged 5-12 with special needs and/or intellectual disabilities the chance to experience the joy of playing cricket.
Join us this Friday to learn more about these remarkable programs, the impact they've had on participants and their families, and how cricket can truly bring people together. Get ready to be inspired by Phillip Melville and Will Harding.
