Memorable experiences:

In every sense, the experiences in South Africa fulfilled the aims of the Tour of broadening and enriching "the cultural experience of each player" and of providing them with an "educational experience." Further, "the personal development of each player" was fostered throughout the 26 days spent touring together.

For each of the touring party, there were experiences that will long be remembered as personal highlights. However, the following experiences were memorable for all those involved:

  • The elephants gathering at the water hole at Addo Elephant Park.
  • Exploring the Cango Caves near Oudtshoorn.
  • The countless shopping opportunities - bartering at flea markets and bargains at the Billabong Outlet at Jeffreys Bay.
  • Visiting Robben Island and hearing the confronting experiences of some ex-prisoners.
  • The Rugby match between Western Province and Gauteng at Newlands Stadium.
  • The rough boat trip to Seal Island, near Cape Town.
  • The many animals at Hluhluwe and Pilanesburg Game Reserves.
  • Staying overnight at Shakaland and watching Zulu dancing.
  • Visiting the Test Cricket venues in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Durban and Potschefstroom.
  • The boy's match at North West Stadium in Potschefstroom.
  • Three (3) hat-tricks - Tim Laws, Evan Miller and Chloe Richards.
  • The two (2) days at Sun City - the Valley of the Waves.
  • Visiting the township of Soweto - the boys' match at Elkah Stadium and the Hector Pieterson Memorial.
