Cricket NSW recognises honour recipients

Cricket NSW | January 27, 2023

Cricket NSW congratulates all those in the cricket community recognised yesterday in the 2023 honours list. These individuals have been awarded the country's highest honours in recognition of their contribution and service to the sport.

Five members of the NSW cricket community have been awarded the Medal of the Order of (OAM) including Kent Mayo, Henry Maskauskas, Graham Reed, Marshall Rosen and Arthur Watson, for their service to cricket.

Cricket NSW CEO, Lee Germon, applauded those in the cricket community who have been recognised in the 2023 honours list.

“On behalf of the NSW cricket family, I congratulate all of those awarded the country’s highest honours for their significant contributions to cricket,” Germon said.

“Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our organisation and these five award recipients have contributed greatly over many, many years.

“There is little doubt that Kent, Henry, Graham, Marshall and Arthur have inspired many in the community to play and love the game, and for that we are truly indebted.”

Watson, Cricket NSW’s most prolific grade umpire, is a life member of the NSW Cricket Umpires and Scorers’ Association, the Sydney Cricket Association and Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club.

Reed is another who has given so much as a match official, adding his OAM to a list of honours that includes his inclusion as a member of the NSW Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association Hall of Fame.

Rosen has contributed greatly to the sport both on and off the field, having played for the NSW Blues, before serving as a state selector and on the CNSW Board of Directors. He is also a Life Member of Cricket NSW.

Mayo founded the Sunny Jim Cricket Club in Uralla in 1987, named after the great Sunny Jim Mackay – a cricketer from the early 1900’s from the same town who some considered the best batter never to play Test cricket.

Meskauskas, a national swimming champion in his youth, served as a Councillor on Maitland Council for more than 30 years as well as being involved in both the Western Suburbs and Telarah Cricket Clubs.
