Belmont District Cricket Club - Presidents Report 1984/85

Belmont District Cricket Club | November 14, 2024

The presentation of this Report to you, the members of Belmont District Cricket Club, traditionally brings to a close one "Cricket Year" and signifies the beginning of another. The season just past saw our club field teams in all Five Senior Grades and Under 17's and Under 23's, as well as Junior C & S sides in all age groups.

Honours came our way in the winning of the First Grade Premiership after a few years in the doldrums. My congratulations to the team and to Chris Williams in his first year of coaching in winning the pennant. Honours also came in the form of our Under 14's winning their premiership and mark my words, there are some future First Graders in that side. At our recent Presentation Night, the prestige awards went to Bruce Hilliar "Sportsman of the Year", Alan Legge "Clubman" and Kyle Doyle "Junior Sportsman"; my congratulations go to each as most worthy recipients. The Presentation Night also produced a marvellous speaker in the person of Mr Allan Jones who commanded total attention throughout his talk. Unfortunately his speech culminated in a farewell to one of the best cricketers to ever tread the turf of Cahill Oval, that person being one Gary Gilmour. Gus has decided to hang up his boots, surely a sad time for Gary and most surely a sad moment to any who have had the privilege to play alongside him. All the best in your retirement.

A successful club invariably sports a conscientious Committee and our Club is very privileged in that respect. My thanks go to the Committee in general for their donation of "free time" to attend meetings and especially to Alan, Greg and Graham for their efforts.

As a Club we are indebted to the help provided by the Board, Management and Members of Belmont Sportsmans Club for their administrative help and patronage of raffles, etc., without whose help all cricketers would pay much more heavily for their weekend sport.

Finally, I would like to wish both Lakes United and Belmont Baseball Club all the best in their respective endeavours and welcome all players and prospective new members to the 1985-86 season.
