Pocket Profile: Tom Brooks - Western Suburbs District Cricket Club

Western Suburbs District Cricket Club Sydney | September 06, 2023

Tom Brooks is Western Suburbs first grade player number 721 after making his debut as a leg spin bowler at the age of 18.

In 2022-23 Tom had the good fortune of playing for NSW/ACT 2nd XI against Victoria in Melbourne. In 2022-23 he took his first five wicket haul in first grade and won the Western Suburbs District Cricket Clubs Mal Gorham Players Player of the Year Award.

Here’s our quick pocket profile with Tom.

Nickname:

TB, Brooksy and Brooka take your pick!

Best moment in junior cricket:

Scoring 102 not out in under 12 in Scone with my brother stranded at the other end on 48 and he’d never scored a 50. (His toys came out of the cot that day)!

Winning 2016 and 2018 GPS premiership with Riverview

Before a game I always:

Chat on the phone to someone whether that be mates or family to help me relax and get into the groove.

What do you do for work or at university?

I’m currently labouring and working casually so it gives me the opportunity to play cricket.

How do you amuse yourself on a plane flight?

Maybe a little bit of music, otherwise sleep! I’m not really a movie man!

Which singer/band would you like to see perform live:

Nickelback, Alan Jackson, Eminem

Ausure Scone is a proud sponsor of Western Suburbs and Tom Brooks

Who is the king of selfies at your club:

Will O’Donnell

Funniest team-mate?

Mohammad ‘shampoo’ Irfan

Most annoying team-mate?

Arnav Raina - need to invest in a good set of earmuffs.

If you won the lottery what would you buy first:

A big property

Favourite city in the world to visit:

Not really a big travel person but somewhere in rural America

Childhood hero:

As a spinner it would have to be Shane Warne, but I never really had a childhood hero

Who is the fastest bowler you have played against:

Greg West - 2 years ago when we played Manly, he bowled a spell, and I still haven’t seen a single ball. Got skittled after 3 balls.

Who is the best batsman you’ve bowled to:

Nick Larkin doesn’t look like getting out.

Who are the two players at Western Suburbs you predict to have big season in 2023-24?

Nick Cutler and Mohammad Irfan

Who are the two players in the club you admire in terms of skill and competitive spirit?

  • Mohammad Irfan - puts them on a dime and loves bowling.
  • Jarod Brett - great bloke, can bat and loves the game.

Most memorable moment in cricket?

Playing NSW 2ndXI against Victoria in 2022-23. I loved the experience.

What's the best win you've been involved with?

Rouchel Razorbacks when I was 12 and we were playing A grade in the Upper Hunter. We won the grand final with 6 players guys under the age of 17.

Your most treasured possession:

Book of photos that my grandparents gave me for my 21st birthday.

Favourite Food:

Chinese

Favourite TV Show:

Yellowstone

Three things you would like to do after your cricket career:

  • own and run a pastoral company.
  • move back to a farm.
  • to be in a position to help people if they need it.

What’s your goal for the 2023-24 season:

Play finals cricket with Western Suburbs and I’d love to get myself in a position to play higher level cricket.
