Western Suburbs 5th Grade hosted Fairfield Liverpool at Punchbowl Oval in Round 3 of the 2023-24 NSW Premier Cricket season.
Western Suburbs won the toss and without hesitation batted first, however found themselves in some trouble being 2/39 after 10 overs with wickets to Talha Yaseen and Ryan Rajesh putting Fairfield Liverpool on the front foot.
A superb 82 run partnership between club debutant Kit Keey and Jack Clark got Wests back in it before Clark was dismissed by Alexander Gomez for 38. Keey fell quickly after for 60. Will Zakostelsky continued his run of super form adding 38 with the middle to lower order contributing to get Wests to 8/219 at the completion of their 50 overs. Fairfield skipper Gomez was the pick of the bowlers with 3/34.

Fairfield Liverpool’s run chase began well and they were 0/34 at the 10 over mark. Prasad Grandham provided the breakthrough dismissing Daksh Hule for 9 brilliantly caught by Jack Clark at slip. James Cisternas then took the next 3 wickets for Wests and Fairfield were 4/77 after 22 overs.
Cisternas was in the game again taking a super catch at short cover off the bowling of Kanishk Ruhil with Fairfield at 5/79
A 32 run partnership between Yash Singh and Hrehan Shah was broken when opener Yash Singh was dismissed by James Barwise with a brilliant catch from keeper Luke Hoogendyk for a very well made 56.
The next 4 wickets fell for just 16 runs with Barwise taking 3 and Zakostelsky taking 2. Western Suburbs winning by 90 runs in a great team effort.

Some impressive bowling figures included James Cisternas 3 for 24 off 8 overs. James Barwise 3 for 18 off 8, Will Zakostelsky 2 for 14 off 5 and Prasad Grandham bowled 7 overs, 3 maidens, 1 wicket for 10 runs.
