Western Suburbs v Fairfield Liverpool 4th Grade Round 3 NSW Premier Cricket 2023-24
Western Suburbs District Cricket Club Sydney | October 16, 2023
Western Suburbs 4th grade traveled to Fairfield oval to take on Fairfield-Liverpool in the 3rd round of the 2023/24 season.
For the third week in a row Wests lost the toss and were invited to bat first. The first over of the innings set the tone for Western Suburbs with Damien Guild hitting a 4 and 6 through and over mid-wicket. The first 2 rounds Wests struggled to build a strong platform in the top order, with the top 3 being challenged this week. Damien and Flynn Nicholls must have taken this personally with a magnificent opening stand of 205 at close to a run a ball. Flynn the first to fall caught behind for 81 (including 8 fours and 1 six) his first grade 50. The onslaught continued with Abhinav Kamsali joining Damien at the crease. Damien was dismissed a short while later with the score 241 for a better than run a ball 130 (including 13 fours and 2 sixes) his first ever hundred.
Jaiden Gray and Abhinav knew their roles were to try to hit boundaries and run hard. Boundaries were hard to come by with Fairfield bowling well to their off-side plan. Abhinav finished 40 not out off just 45 balls, Jaiden caught on the boundary for 27 off 28 balls and Ben Gorham a cheeky 4 not out off 3 balls. The final score was a whooping 3/300. The pick of the Fairfield bowlers was Ajay Mohan (1/49 off his 10). Aryan Totade 1/46 and Ethan Muller 1/66 the other wicket takers.

The Wests bowling attack was primed and ready for Fairfield to come out hard to try and chase the run a ball total. Nick Audet striking first thanks to a brilliant diving catch at second slip by Jaiden Gray score 1/19. Fairfield was able to put together a 34 run partnership and started to take a bit of control of the innings. Enter Sree Sista, a simple approach bowling full and straight waiting for the batsmen to miss, combined with Ben Gorham the pair were able to blow through the Fairfield middle order taking 5/11 in a 6 over period.
With Wests starting to get thoughts of an early finish, Zane Chattree and Aden Clark had other thoughts putting together a 113 run partnership for the 7th wicket. With boundaries flowing freely, the field spread, and all bowling options being used, it took a small mistake from the batsmen and some consistent full bowling from Nick Audet to have Zane out for 44 (including 4 fours and 1 six). The much needed boost for the Wests fielders. Aden Clark was out a short time later caught on the boundary for a brutal 81 off just 59 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. This sparked a fairly quick end to the innings with the last 2 wickets adding just 23 runs for Fairfield to be all out 213 in the 43rd over.
