Pocket Profile: Prasad Gandham - Western Suburbs District Cricket Club

Prasad Gandham is a skilful fast bowler for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club known for the high level of effort and dedication he puts in at training and in matches.

Last season, Prasad took 23 wickets at 16.35 with best figures of 5-73 off 17 overs against Penrith in Round 11.

He was also awarded the club's esteemed Dave Brooks award for Club Person of the Year by embodying and upholding Wests' ethos of 'Better People Through Cricket'.

What year were you born?

1996

Tell us about your cricket journey. Where did you start junior cricket and the clubs you’ve played for in senior cricket

I played my junior cricket and Uni Cricket back in India. Since I moved to Australia, I started with a bit of park cricket, then played Shires for Northwest Sydney Hurricanes for a couple of seasons, and now I have been with Western Suburbs for the past 3 seasons.

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer? Batsman, bowler, allrounder, wicket keeper etc

I am a medium-fast bowler who can move the ball a bit.

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

Being involved in the game and facing different kinds of challenging times during the game where tests your character and patience. Also, singing the club song after winning the game.

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?

In a Shires' 2nd-grade game as a No11 batsman, I was able to hold a stick and rotate the strike to the other batsmen and had a partnership of over 50 runs for the last wicket to win the match while chasing.

Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (M.S Dhoni)

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?

Not against but I faced him in nets and it's Mohammad Irfan Jr.

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Tom Brooks facing him in the nets

Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?

Rehaan ShyamSundar, for the efforts he puts in, I really wish him to see in higher ranks

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Josh Clarke and Paul Ryan.

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

Communication and decision-making are key attributes for a captain on the field, and a leader needs to bring passion and respect to the game, which influences the team and club off the field. (A great team captain is a natural leader).

Who’s considered the biggest pest at your club?

James Barwise (Scotchy)

Favourite location, city or country as a holiday destination?

Queenstown (New Zealand)

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?

Myself

Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?

Regardless of what sport it is, reading about or watching athletes struggle during challenging times in their careers and how they continue to stand tall and continue always gives me inspiration.

Who is someone in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?

M.S Dhoni

What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?

Cooking and Netflix.

If working, what do you do?

I work at a Pharmaceutical Company in the logistics division for a company called Sigma Healthcare.

Try my best to contribute and give my team success and win a premiership
