Oscar Dance is a young, hard-working leg-spin bowler for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club, known for the high level of effort he puts into his bowling at training.

Last season, Oscar was a part of the Western Suburbs AW Green Shield squad which made it through to the quarterfinals. He also made his debut in third grade in Round 15 against Blacktown Mounties, taking 1 for 12 off 4 overs.

What year were you born?

2007

Tell us about your cricket journey. Where did you start junior cricket and the clubs you’ve played for in senior cricket?

I began cricket at age 5 and played all my junior cricket with Marrickville Cricket Club and CWSCA.

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer? 

Leg-spin Bowler

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

The positive and friendly culture of a team and winning games when you’ve worked the hardest

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?

Scoring my first hundred in club cricket, my friend and I put on 300 runs for the 2nd wicket as a partnership

Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?

Adil Rashid

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?

Toby Laughton when I was in year 7

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Haven’t played against, but Tom Brooks in the nets

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

A few come to mind, but recently Philippe’s innings at Pratten in the T20 comp, chanceless and classy strokeplay and power hitting.

Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?

Ethan Anderson

Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?

Aarav Sharma, he is a good young leg spinner in Green Shield this year

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Alex MacInnes and Finn Gray both put in hard work and set the standards at Western Suburbs by leading by example

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

Composure and determination

Which singer/band would you like to see perform live?

J. Cole

Who’s considered the biggest pest at your club?

Luke Hoogendyk

Favourite location, city or country as a holiday destination?

Vietnam, especially in the summer

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?

My Dad has helped me be successful in all aspects of cricket

Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?

Thinking about previous challenging times and reflecting on how I’ve overcome them since inspires me to keep persisting.

Who are the three people in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?

Nelson Mandela, Shane Warne, Adam Sandler

What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?

I enjoy going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and playing rugby.

If working, what do you do?

I am a casual sales assistant at Greg Chappell Cricket Centre

Do you have a favourite quote?

‘You may not know now, but later you’ll understand.’

What are your goals for the next season?

Take at least 20 wickets and score 2 x 50s personally, but more to help whichever team I am playing in play finals cricket this year.
