Pocket Profile: Prince Patel - Western Suburbs District Cricket Club

Prince Patel is an exciting top-order batsman for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club who achieved four scores of fifty-plus in his debut season at the club.

Last season, Prince amassed 552 runs at an average of 29.05, including a top score of 78 against Campbelltown-Camden in Round 16.

He was also the highest run-scorer in fifth grade for Western Suburbs, as well as the second-highest run-scorer in the club's AW Green Shield side, which made it through to the quarterfinals.

What year were you born? 

2008

Tell us about your cricket journey. Where did you start junior cricket and the clubs you’ve played for in senior cricket?

I started playing cricket for Kellyville Ridge CC, before progressing to play reps for Blacktown Representative CC and now I currently play for Western Suburbs.

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer? Batsman, bowler, allrounder, wicket keeper? 

I would describe myself as a top-order batsman and a part-time off-spinner.

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

Chasing down big scores in tough situations and getting the team to win.

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?

Scoring 4 fifties for Wests in my debut season, 3 in grade and 1 in Green Shield.

Sattvik Narayan from UNSW

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Aarush Soni from Hawkesbury

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

Kanishk Ruhil getting 60-odd against Hawkesbury in round 1 last year.

Who is the best wicketkeeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?

Luke Hoogendyk 

Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?

Aarav Sharma as he really gets his leg spin to turn a mile.

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Will Chesterfield for his fielding skills, and Mark Lewis for his competitive spirit 

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

Determination to win no matter the game conditions and giving honest feedback to each player after the match regardless of their performance.

Favourite location, city or country as a holiday destination?

Singapore

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?

My Dad, he constantly pushes me to my limit in and outside of cricket along with looking out for my best interests.

Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?

I put a lot of pressure on myself, which forces me to work harder and get even better than I was before.
