Pocket Profile: Tom Marriott - Western Suburbs District Cricket Club

Tom Marriott is an established top-order batsman for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club, known for sharing his cricketing experience to help young players improve their own craft.

This season, Tom returns to grade cricket and was appointed captain of the Western Suburbs fourth-grade side, which made it through to the semi-finals last season.

In the 2022/23 season, Tom made three fifty-plus scores for the club, top-scoring with 77 against Sydney Cricket Club.

What year were you born? 

1994 

Tell us about your cricket journey. Where did you start junior cricket, and the clubs you’ve played for in senior cricket? 

I played Juniors and Seniors for Berowra Cricket Club in the Hornsby Kuring-gai & Hills DCA. Played a season with Wests in 22/23 and back for more this year. 

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer? Batsman, bowler, allrounder, wicket keeper

Top order batsman, part time wicket-keeper. 

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket? 

Everyone trying to play their role and work together towards a common goal. 

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far? 

Winning an A2 premiership in 17/18 from 3rd place (snuck into Top 4 finals) after having a season off. Most memorable, enjoyable and refound love for the game.

Ricky Ponting 

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against? 

Ben Patterson 

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against? 

Chris Green 

Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?

Rajveer Masrani. He works on all three disciplines equally. 

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit? 

Josh Clarke & Ben Gorham 

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader? 

Initiative & the ability to remain calm under pressure. 

Which singer/band would you like to see perform live? 

To travel back in time and see Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band in their prime. 

Who’s considered the biggest pest at your club? 

Will O’Donnell 

Favourite location, city or country as a holiday destination?

What do you like to do to relax outside cricket? 

Keep up to date with news, watch TV/movies and play soccer in winter. 

What do you do for work? 

I work as a sports journalist/producer for 9 News & The Today Show.  

What are your goals for this season? 

Captain 4th Grade to finals, building on their great Semi-Final season in 23/24 and to avg. at least 35 with the bat.

Based at the picturesque and historic Pratten Park in Ashfield, the Club was founded in 1895 and has a proud tradition of success, especially in the development of many fine players
