Martis Johri is a top-order batsman and off-spinning all-rounder who joined Western Suburbs Districts cricket club at the beginning of the 2023-24 season.
Martis has made a name for himself as a cricketer who has great skill in all facets of the game and has demonstrated great patience and temperament whether batting or bowling.
This season, Martis has been a valuable member of the Western Suburbs AW Green Shield side which made it to the semi-finals. Notably, he recently captained the Green Shield side in a convincing win against UNSW in the quarterfinals taking 5 for 28 off 10 overs.

What year were you born?
2009
Tell us about your cricket journey. Where did you start junior cricket and the clubs you’ve played for in senior cricket?
I started junior cricket at St. Josephs Riverwood when I was four years old. At the age of 8 I started playing reps for St. George. After representing for 5 years I moved to Canterbury and Western suburbs. In 2023, I was fortunate enough to play greenshield for Wests.
If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?
I'm an all-rounder who bowls off-spin and bats in the top-order.
What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?
I enjoy being apart of a team and contributing in my capacity for the team's goal.
What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?
Scoring my first century after being run out for 96 in the previous game.
Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?
Sachin Tendulkar.
Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?
Hanno Jacobs at Pratten nets in the dark.
Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?
Tom Brooks at Pratten nets.
Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?
My teammate, Riley Keen from Cranbrook School took 8 wickets for 23 runs in one innings.
Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?
Jack Jobson
Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?
Mitch Fleming and Finn Gray
What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?
Trust and confidence in teammates.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Who’s considered the biggest pest at your club?
Rehaan Shyamsundar, he's always bragging about something.

Mykonos or Santorini
Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?
My Mum and Dad have supported me for as long as I can remember. I also must mention my coaches, Hamish Solomons and Tahmid Islam, who have guided me in every aspect of the game.
Who are the three people in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?
Sachin Tendulkar, Anthony Kiedis and Lando Norris.
What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?
Playing Guitar, bass and listening to my favourite bands.
What would it mean to you to play first-class cricket?
Playing first-class cricket would be a dream come true.
