Q: Darren Smith plays Over 50s cricket for the Port Jackson Cricket Club and has represented NSW and Australia Over 50s cricket teams.
In 2017 at the NSW Over 50s state championships Darren won the region player of the championships and was selected in the NSW Over 50s team shortly after.
He was a member of Australian Over 50s 2018 World Cup win in Sydney in 2018 and was also in the 2020 Australian Over 50s World Cup squad to play in South Africa where unfortunately the World Cup was cut short due to Covid.

Q: Veterans Cricket NSW would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Eureka Whittaker Macnaught and CEO Greg Cook for their generous sponsorship support this week for the 2024 Cooper Finlay Cup against Queensland held in Maitland and Port Macquarie this week.
Your contribution played a crucial role in making the carnival was a resounding success, and we are immensely grateful for your partnership.
Not only did Greg and his wife Maria join us for the presentation dinner on Monday night at East Maitland, but they also managed to drop into the grounds and check out the progress of how each game was getting on.
Your commitment to supporting initiatives like ours demonstrates your dedication to fostering sound financial advice for all Veterans cricketers.
On Monday night Greg announced that Eureka Whittaker Macnaught is offering a complimentary $550 financial discovery meeting at no charge for players from the Cooper Finlay Cup.
If you are interested, please reach out to Greg on greg.cook@ewmac.com.au and you can arrange a time regarding a plan for your financial future.
Once again, thank you for your unwavering support and generosity. We are truly honoured to have Eureka Whittaker Macnaught as a valued partner, and we remain committed to making a positive impact with your continued support.
"Make a Plan" and thank Greg for his support.

Q: A Legspinners Diary - NSW Over 55s Kangaroos - Division Two Champions
A magnificent week of cricket & camaraderie at the National O55s Championships, Christchurch NZ, Nov 23-27, 2023. The tournament included 16 teams in two Divisions, with NSW and Qld each sending 3 teams, Victoria, WA, SA and New Zealand two teams each, and one team from each of ACT and Tasmania. Each Division was divided into two Pools of four teams for the initial round-robin format, with the top teams in each pool to play off for the chocolates. I was a member of the triumphant NSW Kangaroos, who came through Pool B undefeated and claimed the Division 2 title by trouncing the highly fancied NSW Waratahs in the final. Yes, yes, I know we were all a squad and “your triumph is my triumph” etc, but we all knew we were in 3rds and they (the 2s) were expecting to put us in our place, so it was pretty sweet!

Q: “I wished I’d been a little more patient”.
These are the words of Matt Lewis who was selected in the Australian Over 50s Cricket team to play at the Over 50s Cricket World Cup in South Africa in March 2020. Sadly for Matt and all participants Covid cut short the World Cup after just 2 games.
Growing up in Chullora, Matt had plenty of sporting talent. He was playing cricket for Bankstown Cricket club in the Sydney Grade Cricket Competition and had been spotted by Rugby League Coach Warren Ryan and his school’s sports master as a talented number 6.

Q: An ode to the NSW Possums XII of 2022 (by an interested onlooker)
Gents of the Mighty ‘Possums’ aka the ‘Blue Tongues’, aka ‘National 55’s Champions’... by now the team has said its goodbyes and travelled to different corners of the Great State of New South Wales, as we resume normal programming.
It would be wise to simply reiterate what other team members have stated about what a great week we’ve had playing the game we all love for NSW and bonding as teammates and fighting hard to be crowned Champions. In my experience it’s not a “given” on these tours and in these tournaments to all get along so well. Of course, winning medallions, corflute signs and trophies and the respect of peers outside the group helps. But it’s not everything. What really matters is the trust and comradeship that we all put in each other inside our group – sometimes against better or prior judgement (!!) and being prepared to work for each other through the tough stuff, through the self-doubt, self-loathing (!), the anxiety close games create and to put all that on repeat for 4 x 45 over matches. And all that, notwithstanding sore knees and shoulders, Achilles tendons and other nagging complaints that it’s absolutely natural to be feeling at 55 years +. That is what really matters.
