Randwick Petersham Cricket Club 1st Grade Debutants 2022-23 plus the Annual Report

Randwick Petersham Cricket Club | July 29, 2023

To recognise the achievement of players selected in the Randwick Petersham 1st XI, the club introduced a capping system in 2001- 02, its first season.

A player who plays in the 1st Grade team is presented with a Randwick Petersham "Baggy Green" cap bearing the club's logo and becomes listed as a "capped" player. The player is also allocated a sequential number that is displayed on his playing shirt. Numbers are allocated in order of selection although when two or more players are selected at the same time, the allocation is in surname alphabetical order.

Players retain the number they are allocated for all time. The last number allocated will also reflect the total number of players to play in the club's 1st Grade team. A total of 152 have now played in the 1st XI since the club's creation 22 years ago. This season, six players made their debut as 1st graders with Randwick Petersham. Each was presented with his cap by an official or representative of the club before the start of play in their first match in the top grade. The capped players for 2022-23 are:

No 147 Manish Manhotral - born 21 August 1981 (aged 41): Although he played in two Twenty20 matches in 2021-22, Manish made his formal 1st Grade debut with the club in round 1 against UTS North Sydney at Coogee Oval, making 3 runs off 15 balls in a match lost via the Duckworth Lewis method after rain intervened. At 41 years of age, he is the club's oldest 1st Grade debutant

No 148 Tawanda Muyeyel - born 11 January 2002 (aged 20): Tawanda joined us from the English County Cricket Club, Kent. He was the 2019 Young Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year. He made his Sydney 1st Grade debut with the club in round 3 against Northern District at Petersham Oval. He opened the batting and scored 84 off 164 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. The match ended in a draw, 6-275 to 8-327 declared.

No 149 Angus McTaggart - born 9 November 2002 (aged 18): One of Newcastle's top young cricketers, Angus McTaggart made his 1st Grade debut in round 5 against Penrith at Coogee Oval. He began well, taking the new ball to dismiss Panther's skipper and NSW hard-hitting batter Ryan Gibson, LBW for 3. He finished with 2-26 off 8 overs in a Penrith score of 8-359 declared. With the bat, he came in at no 8 with the score 7-302. He and Ashley Burton together put on the 58 runs needed for victory with Angus remaining unconquered on 41* off 51 balls hitting 6 fours and a six. A brilliant debut.

His debut followed an impressive performance the Sunday before in a T20 match against Gordon at Petersham Oval where he scored 27* off 20 deliveries with four boundaries. With the ball he ended with 0-32 off 3 overs.

No 150 Benjamin Montedoral - born 14 May 1999 (aged 23): After some consistent batting and bowling performances in 2nd

Grade, including two half-centuries, Ben Montedoro made his 1st Grade Belvidere Cup debut in round 9 at Coogee Oval against Sydney CC. A limited overs match which was won by 8 wickets, Ben did not have the opportunity to bat or bowl

No 151 Jackson Gwynne - born 11 July 2001 (aged 21): Jackson was brought into the 1st Grade team in the round 11 match

against Hawkesbury at Coogee, to bolster the attack following an injury to opening bowler and skipper Daya Singh. He produced the goods almost immediately by bowling the opening bat and top-scorer. He had the next batter caught behind first ball and a few overs later had a third wicket for a tally of 3-11 in a score of 5-100. He finished with 3-16 from 10 overs. He followed up with 0-27 from 6 overs with the new ball in the second innings. The match was won outright.

No 152 Blake Weymouth - born 18 May 2003 (aged 19): After scoring 265 runs in 6 trips to the crease in 2nd Grade, Blake forced his way into the 1st Grade line-up for the round 11 match against Hawkesbury at Coogee Oval. Chasing 145, he opened the batting with Jason Sangha but was run out for just 4. In the second innings he joined Camden Hawkins who replaced Sangha on rep. duties. And while Hawkins went cheaply, Blake went on to make 40 off 66 balls with 5 fours. He and Riley Ayre put on 66 for the second wicket to set up an outright victory.
