The Ken Devlin / Luke Grimmond Memorial Cup was first contested in November 2019 to honour the unmatched contributions of both gentleman to Navy Cricket with Navy the inaugural winners.
COVID-19 postponed this fixture before it reconvened in 2022-23 with Irish Under 19 skipper Tim Tector leading the Randy Petes to their first win over Navy. On November 16, 2023 Navy Cricket was not impacted by deployments and key players were on shore and a strong and well drilled side took to the field in the 3rd T20 fixture.

Asked to bat first Navy were in early trouble as batsman struggled with variable bounce early on with Hayden Fox (2-7 off 2) claiming both openers caught. Jackson Dodd was introduced in the 5th over and had an immediate impact knocking over former Randy Petes Steven Sheakey to have Navy marooned at 3-17. The introduction of spin via Christian Roberts (1-13 off 2) kept them quiet at 4-29 before a 123-run stand between their number 3 Corey Evans (59 off 47) from Campbelltown-Camden and wicket keeper Kingston (64 off 37) led a strong counterattack with 10 maximums between them including 4 in an over from Kingston off Guru Chandar sailing high and long into Dolphin St. The bowlers worked hard to reduce the rate as 200 looked a likely total with both batsmen set. At the death the skipper Jake Egan (2-10 off 2) reintroduced himself into the attack to remove the dangerous Kingston while Gregor Aitchison (1-12 off 2) claimed Evans and the innings closed at 7-166.
Josh Segal (10) and Christian Roberts (8) started with a flourish, but both fell with the score at 20. Fox came and departed quickly with scoring difficult against the new ball. At 6-32 the Randy Petes were all at sea. Ashish Bhat (15) and Guru (23) worked hard to resurrect the innings, but the target was well out of reach with the chase concluding at 83.
Following the match, it was fitting that Luke Grimmond’s widow was present and so too Ken Devlin’s eldest son Steve Devlin who presented the Devlin / Grimmond Memorial Cup to Navy skipper Steven Sheakey for the second time. Junaid Mansoor was presented with a Navy shirt as their Player of the Match and similarly a T20 jersey was presented to Corey Evans for his dominant innings.
Furthermore, a Navy baggy blue was presented to Club CEO John Stewart to sit proudly in the Club Museum.

Navy Cricket’s officials were full of praise for the opportunity to play at Coogee Oval and asked for the fixture to continue well into the future to honour the memories of both Ken Devlin and Luke Grimmond. This will continue to occur as Randwick Petersham are proud to host Navy each season in their Consolidation Week for the National Defence Carnival.
