Coady won the toss and had no hesitation to bat. He opened with Bell and tight bowling from Navy saw Bell fall early and closely followed by his skipper with the Randy Petes held to 2-18 in the first 4 overs. Carney 46 off 29 and McNally with a run-a-ball 30 steadied the ship. Holland (19), Callanan (13) contributed down the order. After 20 overs 8/148 was posted.

Chasing 149 to win Navy made a decent start to the chase with 15 runs off the first 3 overs. Di Blasio was brought into the attack with immediate effect with 2-6 in his first spell. Former Randy Petes’ Steve Sheakey made a quickfire 20 while Matt Lyons top scored with 37. Di Blasio was the pick of the bowlers with 3-16 (4) and was backed up by Mansoor 3-30 (4), Bell 2-27 (4) and Doggett 2-37 (3.2) with Navy falling 11 short.

Following the match presentations were made with Navy selecting Carney as their Man of the Match while the Randy Petes selected Lyons and Whit presented him with a pair of Randy Petes Budgy Smugglers which he wore throughout the ADF National Championships the following week. Thanks, were also extended to Saif Siddiqui and Mark Burr-Dixon for umpiring the match as well as to the Navy Women’s side for providing the after-match refreshments.

The Randy Petes congratulate Navy for a successful National Championship at Benson’s Lane winning the 50 Over and T20 Cup to defend their 2023 Titles and we look forward to welcoming Navy back to Coogee in 2025 for the 5th Devlin/Grimmond Memorial Cup with the ledger now sitting at 2 apiece.
