Then and Now - BBL | 14 Final

Randwick Petersham Cricket Club | January 27, 2025

In the Round 2, 2 Day match v Eastern Suburbs on 12 & 19 Oct 2013 1st Grade won by 3 wickets at Waverley Oval.

David Warner (1st Grade cap #90) and Nathan Ellis (1st Grade cap #91) made their debuts in 1st Grade for Randwick Petersham and were presented their baggy greens by Bill Anderson (Director of Cricket) and 1st Grade skipper Adam Semple.

Ellis celebrated with an early wicket before finishing with 2-24 off 11 after Warner had run out the opener before he had faced a ball. With Soumil Chhibber taking figures of 3-36 off 14 the final score of 183 looked well within reach. With Warner gone for 8, Nick Stapleton for 0 and Jake Scicluna for 8 it was backs to the wall at 5-63 at stumps day 1. Resolve by captain Adam Semple to grind out 34 off 141 balls set the scene for Nathan Price (56 off 118) and Chhibber (57 off 94) to take the points: 8-246 to 183.

Now, 12 seasons later, from that summer's day at Waverley Oval, Warner and Ellis will take the field as opposing skippers, leading the Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes in one of the most anticipated BBL Finals in recent memory tonight at Ninja Stadium, Hobart. With Jason Sangha lining up for the Thunder there will be a distinct Randy Petes flavour to the match but unfortunately Dan Sams will be on the bench recovering from injury.

For either Warner or Ellis history awaits
