2001- 02 Chee Quee, Parmenter and Warren
Randwick Petersham Cricket Club | April 05, 2023
In 2001-02 three of our first graders this season excelled themselves, reaching heights they had not experienced before in Sydney grade cricket. Richard Chee Quee, Daryl Parmenter and Adam Warren had outstanding seasons.
Richard Chee Quee
Richard Chee Quee headed the Sydney Grade aggregates with 1,003 runs, the only player to pass the magic 1,000 run mark in the competition this season and only the 22nd player ever to do so. His total surpassed his previous best of 757 in 1998-99 with Randwick. It was also the most runs ever scored in a season by a player in any grade in the 101 years of either of the founding clubs, Randwick and Petersham. It also won Richard the Bill O’Reilly Medal as The Player of the Season.
Daryl Parmenter
Daryl Parmenter effected 64 wicket-keeping dismissals—a new Sydney Cricket Association record for grade cricket in competition of predominantly two-day matches. Only Bill Englefield from Northern District has recorded more dismissals securing 66 in 1942-43 when all matches were of one-day duration. Interestingly, Bill Englefield caught 32 and stumped 34 while Daryl caught 53 and stumped 11. Daryl’s best performances were 7 dismissals in an innings against Parramatta and 8 dismissals in a match against North Sydney. The previous record holder for two-day grade matches was Randwick’s Alan Campbell who effected 58 dismissals in 1981-82.
Adam Warren
Adam Warren took 63 wickets for the season, just one wicket behind Fairfield’s Grant Lambert who was Sydney’s highest wicket taker. Adam’s 63 wickets came from a mammoth 380 overs at the superb average of just 18.43 runs each. Best returns were 7 for 36 and 4 for 51 against North Sydney and 6 for 59 against Parramatta. His performance was not missed by the NSW selectors and he played in four Second XI matches to be the club’s first representative player. His season’s haul compares very favourably with Randwick’s all-time record of 65 by Scott Obey in 1998-99 and Petersham’s all time top of 69 by Dave Chardon in 1983-84. - 23 of his wickets were caught by wicketkeeper Daryl Parmenter.
This is how they did it:
