St George District Cricket Club- 2023-24 First XI (Part 1)

St George Cricket Club | September 27, 2024

With the new season upon we take a moment to countdown our top 11 moments from a very memorable 2023-24 season. Here's our top 7-11.

7.     Steve Warks award winning season

So many clichés we could use. Let’s run with “Just like a fine wine”. Warky took down the best club in the competition with mind-blowing figures of 8-16 from 17.2 overs. He then claimed a further four more 5 wicket hauls to become the highest wicket taker for the season his his 41 wickets. He now sits on 881 wickets for The Saints in all grades. To add to that he collected his 5th consecutive 4th Grade Captain of the Year award. He also took out the EW Adams for the 2nd time but the 1st time since 96-97Here were his hauls for 23-24:

8-16 Vs Manly Warringah

5-18 Vs Randwick Petersham

5-43 Vs Sutherland

5-29 Vs Cambelltown

5-17 Vs Hawkesbury

Most importantly he captains and mentors our players with great success.

8.     Raf MacMillan becomes a World Cup Winning Hero

For something different it was Raf with the bat who came up with something special against Pakistan to see Australia into the final against India. The rest is history as Australia were crowned the U19 Champions of the World completing in what can only be described as a special season for the very talented youngster.

9.     Busy Broom with 4 x Clean Sweeps

Unprecedented Round success as the Saints managed to take the broom to Mosman in Rd 2, Sydney in Rd 3 and Randwick Petersham in Rd 9 as well as 2 x 4 wins and a No Result in Rd 6 Vs eventual club champions Manly and Rd 10 Vs Fairfield Liverpool.

10.      Moises Henriques becomes the first to Play 100 in all three formats

What career and he’s still going. 100 games in Shield, One Dayers and for the Sydney Sixers and many as captain. One of the all-time great Saints.

11.       Josh Moors takes out All Time Golden Box award for 1st Grade premiership celebrations

I think it’s safe to say the Josh becomes the Golden Box Goat with his 1st Grade premiership celebrations involving THAT Champagne bottle malfunction that ended up going viral. Priceless!!
