DANIEL RIXON AWARD FOR THE MOST WICKETKEEPING DISMISSALS FOR THE SEASON

Daniel Rixon has made the most wicketkeeping dismissals for the Club, with 498 dismissals in 361 matches in all grades.

The winner was Cody Philipson (47 dismissals in 2nds & 3rds). Cody broke the club record for most wicketkeeping dismissals in a season in 3rd Grade, with 36 catches (previously 34). He was five dismissals short of Daniel’s club record of 52 dismissals in a season for all grades (in 20 matches in 2005-06). Cody played 15 matches this season.

KEN GARDNER MEMORIAL AWARD (Under 16 Player of the Year)

The winner was Max Kennedy. The award was presented by Matthew Bradley, life member and captain of the 1992-93 AWG premiership team.

MARGARET MANN MEMORIAL AWARD (Under 21 Player of the Year)

The winner was Lachlan Ball. The award was presented by Nick Amos, 2nd Grade captain and winner of the award in 2017-18.

METROPOLITAN CUP PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The winner was Parth Taya. The award was presented by Brett James, captain of the premiership-winning Metro Cup team.

JAMES A. DALY MEMORIAL AWARD (Player of the Year)

The James A. Daly Memorial Award is for the Player of the Year, based on performances in grade rounds up to the final’s series.

The award was instituted in the 1974-75 season to commemorate the work performed for Sutherland Shire cricket by the late Jim Daly (who died in 1974).

The Club’s last connection with Jim Daly passed in December 2023 with the death of John Smythe, the Club’s first Secretary. The Management Committee feels that, after 50 years as the James A. Daly Memorial Award, it is now appropriate to rename the Player of the Year Award as the Steve Smith Medal. Steve Smith is one of our greatest cricketers, being the first Sutherland junior to captain Australia.

To date, he has played 109 Tests for Australia and is our best performed Test batsman after Don Bradman. Before he started his international career, he won our Player of the Season Award four times, in 2004-05, 2006-07, 2007-08 & 2008-09.

The Committee feels that it is a fitting acknowledgement of his contribution to SDCC and his wider achievements to name the award after him. This will take effect from next season.

The winner was Joel Almond. The award was presented by Tony Clark, life member and five-time winner of the award (most in club history).

TED COTTON MEMORIAL AWARD (Players’ Player of the Year)

The winner was Joel Almond. The award was presented by Nathan Whittingham, Club President, life member and winner of the award in 2017-18.

TOM ICETON CLUB PERSON OF THE YEAR

The winner was Brian Hall, who once again was a pillar of strength looking after gameday tasks at Glenn McGrath Oval throughout the season, a job that he has performed for the last 13 seasons. Unfortunately, Brian was attending a funeral in Albury on Friday, so the award was presented to him by Tom Iceton on Monday.
