Phil Jaques scores incredible 321 vs North Sydney

Phil Jaques today scored 321 in 1st Grade against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval. It is the second highest score ever in 1st Grade in Sydney – a tantalising 14 runs short of Victor Trumper's 335, made for Paddington against Redfern at Redfern Oval in 1902-03. He smashed the previous highest score for Sutherland – 212 made by Matthew Bradley in 1999-00.
Phil had a disappointing start to the season for Sutherland, scoring only 116 runs at an average of 16.57 up to Christmas. In the New Year, he has had scores of 183 not out, 23, 131 and today's 321 – 658 runs at an average of 219.33, to take his season aggregate to 774 at an average of 77.40.
His 321 came off only 257 balls in 379 minutes, with 31 fours and 12 sixes. His last three balls before he was dismissed were 6 6 6 – he was caught on the deep mid-wicket boundary going for another six.

He was dismissed with the score on 4/491. The total of 6/500 is the highest innings score ever for Sutherland, passing the previous record of 493 made by 1st Grade against Parramatta at the start of the 1988-89 season.
It was Phil's 16th first grade century for Sutherland. During his innings, he passed teammate Jason Young as the highest runscorer in first grade for Sutherland. Phil now has 6361 runs in first grade at an average of 46.09. After today's innings, Jason is next on 6152 runs.
