Introducing Zown to cricket fans especially mums, dads and grandparents

Paul Ryan | March 23, 2023

This isn’t a story about a game of cricket or a cricketer but it is for all cricket fans throughout Australia especially those with kids or grandkids between the ages of 8 and 14 (tweens or teens as they say).

I love promoting businesses when I can clearly see value they can add and bring to the community. It’s even better when the business is founded and owned by people within the cricket community.

My kids have progressed through their teenage years (well almost all the way through) and they’ve grown up with all the new technology platforms. They’ve been hooked, distracted, entertained, and interestingly become bored and tired of their negativity.

When I heard about Zown, I thought why not share it with as many people as possible.

Zown founded by Lauren Adlam, wife of former NSW Premier Cricketer Warwick Adlam is now live and in Australia initially (with plans to expand to other markets). It’s for tweens and teens, Zown is the zone for kids to call their own. It is all about positivity, good news, and resources to help kids thrive in these tricky yet awesome tween and teen years.

Zown can be downloaded via Apple and Google Stores and includes:

  • daily positivity posts - images of something they love and an affirmation or simply ‘have a great day’ to start off their day with a smile!
  • goal setting
  • contributions - sharing recommendations (recipes, reviews, boredom busters etc) and random acts of kindness with each other (moderated to prevent any kind of bullying)
  • rewards within the app opening different levels and animations of our mascot ‘Zed’.
  • daily riddles and trivia that are interesting and appropriate for kids.

Also within the app is a library of content that kids can access to help them thrive not just survive the tween and teen years.

A curated (helpful) social media feed if you like. Topics covered will include mental health, goal setting, body image, nutrition, drugs and alcohol and many other topics relevant for this age group. Content will be segmented by age - under 12 and over 12 - to ensure its age appropriate.

Zown is free to subscribe and will remain advertising free to keep it safe for kids. Sponsored content (created by brands we love and trust) may be incorporated along with competitions for users.

There’s also a Parent Portal - basically a directory of resources for parents to access to navigate these years alongside their kids. This will cover a range of topics and eventually incorporate a moderated, interactive forum for parents to share concerns and ideas.

Parents and grandparents (and kids!) take a look at Zown - www.zown.app.
