NSW Men's Premier Cricket Umpiring Milestone - Marc Nickl 200th First Grade Appointment

NSW Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association | October 30, 2023

By Darren Goodger

Hello Everyone

Marc Nickl will umpire his 200th Men’s Premier Cricket first grade match on November 4 and 11, standing in the fixture at Rosedale Oval between Fairfield-Liverpool and Sutherland.

This is an outstanding umpiring milestone. Marc becomes just the 12th umpire in our 110-year history to stand in 200 first grade matches. He will share the match with good friend and umpiring colleague Darren Foster.

Marc has a rich history in cricket umpiring, with many highlights during his time as a match official since joining the NSWCUSA in 2005, having previously played Grade cricket with the Fairfield-Liverpool club (1994-2005):

·       15 WNCL matches

·       21 WBBL matches

·       9 Men’s State Second XI matches

·       CA National Championships (U17 Male) 2015-16 and 2016-17

·       Men’s Premier Cricket Second Grade Final 2018-19

Marc has brought so much to our umpiring panel. He umpires with strength, integrity, courage and consistency. He is a wonderful team player. He has earned the respect of his colleagues and the players by way of his ability, decision making accuracy, commitment to and passion for our game. Marc is a stickler for ensuring cricket is played fairly within the Laws and spirit of the game. Several umpires over the years have commented that when the going is tough in the middle for the umps in pressure situations there is no better and more supportive colleague to have by your side than Marc Nickl. A sincere compliment from Marc’s peers.

Marc has generously given so much of his time mentoring less experienced umpires. He has been genuine in supporting several umpires who have benefitted greatly from his wisdom and shared experience. It’s a measure of the selfless nature of Marc Nickl in how committed and sincere he is to the development and encouragement of others.

Marc has also enjoyed a distinguished indoor cricket umpiring career across an amazing 33 years, exceptional service across the world, which has included officiating in 16 national tournaments and Women’s World Cup Finals in New Zealand (2002) and Sri Lanka (2004).

200 first grade matches is an awesome achievement. Congratulations to Marc, we wish him the very best for an enjoyable and successful round 5 match with Darren in what will be Marc’s 269th match in Men’s Premier Cricket.
