Hello Everyone
We celebrate a significant umpiring milestone on November 4 and 11 with Troy Penman being appointed to stand in his 100th first grade match in NSW Men’s Premier Cricket. Troy becomes the 57th umpire to do so in the 110-year history of New South Wales Cricket Umpires’ and Scorers’ Association.
Troy commenced umpiring in season 2012-13, starting with a fourth grade match at Killara Oval between Gordon and Bankstown. He made his first grade debut in season 2014-15 in the fixture between Northern District and Blacktown with Anthony Hobson at Mark Taylor Oval. His record of on field service to the Sydney Cricket Association currently reads:
Troy has performed with distinction at Cricket Australia National Championships, being appointed to umpire the following national finals:
· U15 Male – 2016
· U17 Male – 2016
· U19 Male – 2017
· U19 Male – 2018
He progressed to being a contracted umpire with Cricket Australia in season 2019-20, a member of the Supplementary Umpire Panel. Troy remains a member of this panel today.
It has been a period of exceptional progress, performance and growth for Troy in recent seasons, making his debut in the men’s One Day Cup (2021), BBL (2022) and Sheffield Shield (2023). He has now umpired four One Day Cup fixtures, six matches in the BBL and two Sheffield Shield fixtures. In season 2022-23 Troy was TV Umpire for both the WBBL and WNCL finals. So many more enjoyable and positive cricket experiences await on the back of commitment to preparation, a high work ethic, strong performance and an excellent attitude.
Troy joined the NSWCUSA in 2010 at which time he was working as the Umpires’ Administration Officer, employed by CNSW. He progressed to a management role with NSWCUSA and CNSW, and in 2019 became the NSWCUSA Executive Officer, doing a superb job in leading and progressing the Association in this period. He is a loyal, dedicated, talented and highly valued team member, making a positive contribution to CNSW staff over the past 14 years. Time flies! He is appreciated and respected by his colleagues and the NSWCUSA membership, having been an exemplary employee. Troy has demonstrated a genuine commitment to excellence in his professional life with several fine achievements and key initiatives. He is valued by the NSWCUSA Board.
Troy has a massive heart, considerate of others, selfless, and an amazing father to his two beautiful daughters. He served as a member of our CNSW Zest Committee for several years doing a fantastic job in organising activities to develop staff morale.
Troy is acknowledged and thanked for his outstanding service to umpiring, the NSWCUSA and CNSW. We offer congratulations on achieving this significant milestone of umpiring 100 first grade matches in such a strong premier cricket competition. We wish him the best for the round 5 fixture being played between Sydney and Bankstown at Drummoyne Oval starting Saturday, and also for his appointment this Sunday to umpire the final of the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup for the seventh time.
