Penrith Cricket Club pocket profile with Tom Seldon

What year were you born?

2006

Tell us about your cricket journey.

My first organized cricket came at Muswellbrook Cricket Club where I played in the u10s as an 8 year old. The next year I then moved to the Blue Mountains where I played for Wentworth Falls Cricket Club. I started my representative cricket out west as I played for Blue Mountains Cricket Association and then Mitchell Cricket Council. I then played for Central West in the NSW Youth Championship before moving to Penrith in u15s to play representative cricket for them as I finished my junior cricket at Springwood Cricket Club. I then transitioned to grade cricket as I enter my 3rd year at Penrith Cricket Club with successful Metro cup seasons as I find myself in 5th grade now.

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?

I am a seam bowler who can also contribute with the bat when called upon.

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

I love the challenge and consent ebbs and flows the game produces. I love the way the game changes and the fact you have to fight and be resilient especially in the longer format which i enjoy the most. The mateship of the game as well is something I love as well.

Winning the metropolitan cup in the 2022/23 season for Penrith was a season and a moment I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Roop Dhillon in the u17s Watson shield.

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

Will Bell’s innings against Bankstown in 5th grade. He came in in the 35th over and hit their attack to all parts Making 166 not out off just 142 balls batting for just 45 overs and scoring at over a run a ball for as long as he did it was unreal to watch.

Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?

Zach Williams

Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?

Fred Bell is a dashing young batsman who can bowl handy overs as well. I saw first hand what he's capable of in the backhand of the season in the metro cup and I think he is a young player with a great future as he plays green shield this year.

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Mark Gardner for his outstanding fielding abilities, he is comfortably the best fielder I've played with and I really admire his work ethic and love for his fielding.

Riley Brandl Is another player I admire for his relentless work ethic and his attitude he displays is very admirable. The way he just goes about his business and never complains is a trait I admire a lot that he has.

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

I like a captain who believes in their players and backs them with full confidence as well as the ability to stay calm and composed under pressure.

What are your goals for the next season?

This season for me is about really finding back my love for the game and really enjoying my cricket and to let the results look after themselves. However, a bit of a focus for me is to make more of a contribution with the bat.

Can we ask, what would it mean to you to play first class cricket?

Playing first class cricket would make all the work worth it. Being able to play the game I love so much and represent my state would mean so much to me and would be a great accomplishment.
