Penrith Cricket Club | January 15, 2025

Adam Bayliss is the proud owner of Penrith Cricket Club first grade player number 222.

Adam’s father Trevor Bayliss is Penrith’s first grade player number 64.

What year were you born?

1994

Tell us about your cricket journey.

I began playing cricket when I was 7 or 8 for Penrith RSL. After a year or two I moved to Glenmore Park to play the rest of my juniors with a bunch of mates.

Now I play for Penrith CC. I started at Penrith in Green Shield and have played all the way to First Grade. Wouldn’t want to play anywhere else.

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?

Batting allrounder. Some would say batter. Some would say bowler. Some would say neither.

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

Getting to train, play and spend time with my mates. They are long days at cricket so I’m grateful I get to spend them with a great bunch of blokes.

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?

Being presented my First Grade cap by my dad and scoring 104 not out on debut.

Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?

Too many favourites to pick one. Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Michael Clarke, Ben Stokes.

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?

Ryan Hadley or Ross Pawson

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Devlin Malone

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

Thankfully with - Ryan Gibson v North Sydney at North Sydney Oval in a one day game. 180 of the best. A few balls were lost down Miller St that day.

Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?

Tyran Liddiard. Class with the bat and gloves. Loves winning more than anyone else I know.

Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?

There are a couple of guys at Penrith.

Alexander Kerkham – young quick who sends them down well. Made his Second Grade debut this season at only 17 years old and looks like a really good prospect.

Chase Hayward – another young quick who can give them a whack as well.

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Ryan Gibson – incredible skill with the bat. Can make batting look very easy. Lovely to watch.

Liam Dodderell – his ability to bowl with good pace is exciting to watch. There have been a number of games I remember where there isn’t much in the wicket, but he will still end up with a bag of wickets.

This is a trait I got to appreciate from Ryan ‘Bomber’ Smith at the back end of his career as well. Ultimate competitor.

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

Lead with actions and backs their players. I’ve been lucky that the captains I’ve had since playing higher grades at Penrith have these attributes.

Which singer/band would you like to see perform live?

Panic at the Disco, Eminem, Dermot Kennedy

Panic at the Disco

Favourite location, city or country as a holiday destination?

One I’ve been to is Fiji. I really enjoy England. Would love to go to the Maldives one day.

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?

My dad for sure.

Trevor Bayliss batting for NSW

Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?

Regardless of whether you are having a good day or a bad day, there are always people in your cricket club or in the wider cricket community who would love to be in the position you are in. Remain grateful for what you have and enjoy the little things.

Trust the work you are putting in will bear fruit.

Who are the three people in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?

Tiger Woods, Warren Buffett, Ricky Ponting

What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?

Play golf, catch up with mates over a coffee and spend time with my wife and son.

What’s your occupation?

High School PDHPE Teacher

Do you have a favourite quote?

If it won’t matter in 5 years, don’t worry about it for 5 more than minutes.

Can we ask, what would it mean to you to play first class cricket?

It would be a great honour and a dream come true.
