Penrith Cricket Club | January 21, 2025
What year were you born?
2003
Tell us about your cricket journey.
I’ve played with my local club since the age 6 at The Hills Cricket Club, which is located in a small town called Skerries, in Dublin, Ireland. And to this day I still play and captain our 1s team. I’ve also had the opportunity to play senior cricket here in Penrith for my second year and hopefully not my last!
If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?
I am a medium pace bowler who swings the ball away!
What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?
I love the family, friends and people I have met along my journey and incredibly lucky with the places I’ve got to see!
What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?
Qualifying for the Womens T20 World Cup in 2022! But I also can’t forget about beating Australia in a warm-up game
Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?
Kate Cross
Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?
Shabnim Ismail
Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?
Sophie Ecclestone
Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?
Orla Prendergast. She scored 122* against Sri Lanka recently! And she brought our team over the line to our first championship win! To be out there with her to celebrate her 100 and until the end of the game was very special.
Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?
Mary Waldron
Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?
Isabella Bradley-Labra. She is a young seamer coming through, who has come on so much from last season and is definitely exciting to see how well she does in seasons to come.
Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?
Our Penrith CC skippers Sam Arnold and Elise Noble are two players that everyone in the club looks up to for their experience and knowledge of the game. They are great role models for the younger girls.
What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?
Calming and understanding, being able to communicate with teammates on and off the pitch and knowing they have the full backing of their players! The honesty of a captain is also important for improvement of players and themselves being able to take and give information.
Which singer/band would you like to see perform live?
Noah Kahan
Favourite location, city or country as a holiday destination?
Alvor, Portugal
Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?
My dad. He always supported me since I was younger, by coaching, coming to games and being there through the hard times! He always believed in me, which made me want to do it for him.
Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?
My family and friends. Going through hard times of injuries and not being selected for squads can be tough and hard to keep motivated. But my family and friends always help me look at the bigger picture and keep me going.
Who are the three people in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?
Lando Norris, Sam Kerr and David Attenborough
What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?
I enjoy going on walks, gym and playing GAA when I have the time!
Are you studying or working?
I just graduated from my arts degree in English and Geography at Dublin City University! I hope to eventually do my masters in Teaching.
Do you have a favourite quote?
‘If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.’
What are your goals for the next season?
My goals are to hopefully become more of a regular player in the Irish team! And being able to contribute when I can!
Can we ask, how cool is it to play international cricket?
I’m fortunate to have experienced playing international cricket, which is what I had always dreamed about since I was younger. Watching games on TV and then playing against players you have idolised and watched is pretty cool and special!
