Penrith Cricket Club | February 17, 2025
Murray Staines is in his second year playing with Penrith Cricket Club in the NSW Premier Cricket competition after playing all his cricket from an early age in Lithgow.
Lets find out more about Murray's journey in the game so far.
What year were you born?
2006
Position:
Top order batsman
Batting/Bowling Style:
A left-hand batter who bowls some left-arm straight ones
Club History, who did you play junior cricket with and how long (seasons) have you played at Penrith Cricket Club:
I played all my junior cricket for Lithgow Cricket Club. This season is my second season playing grade cricket for Penrith so I am pretty fresh on the circuit
Favourite Cricket Shot:
Can’t go past a good cover drive
Favourite Food Before a Match:
Definitely has to be eggs on toast. About the only thing I can cook without starting a fire
Dream Cricket Venue to Play At:
The MCG in the Boxing Day test would be pretty sick
Favourite cricket memory in your career so far:
Winning the opens grand final in my final year playing for Lithgow. Barely made the finals coming 4th out of the top 4 and beat the number 1 team who was undefeated that season.
Thunder or Sixers?
Up the Sixers, Sam Konstas is a gun though
Favourite Cricket Format: (eg. T20, ODI, Test Match)
A test match is still the best format by far. Always a good 5 days when the Aussies are playing
If you could play alongside one cricket legend, who would it be and why?
Batting with Chris Gayle would be hectic. Could just park myself up at the other end and watch him hit bombs. Gun player
What Other Sports Do You Enjoy?
I played soccer, basketball, tennis, and a bit of AFL growing up and don’t mind a round of golf every now and then
Favourite Singer/Band:
Not many people would have heard them but Furnace and the Fundamentals go pretty good
What’s your go-to song or playlist before a match?
I use my girlfriend’s Spotify premium so I have learnt to like a bit of white girl music.
Favourite Movie/TV Show
My favourite movie is definitely Red Dog and TV show is probably Mr inbetween
If you could change one thing about cricket, what would it be?
You should get a second chance when you’re batting. The amount of unlucky ways you can get out in cricket they should give you another crack
