Here’s our quick pocket profile with Josh
What year were you born?
2003
If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?
Bowling all-rounder. A poor man's Chris Woakes or Pat Cummins.
What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?
Playing with my mates and the competition. Playing at Manly Oval is a good bonus.
Josh Seward is presented with his first grade cap by Manly's captain Jay Lenton
What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?
The 2nd Grade Grand Final 3 years ago against St George was awesome.
Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?
Josh Hazlewood. I could mount a case for being his biggest fan.
Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?
I played Liam Marshall in my school first XI debut. He was 17 and I was 14 and that was the most scared I’ve ever been. Daya Singh bowled fast in my first-grade debut, he pitched them up to me which I appreciated.
Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?
Steve O’Keefe has made me look very stupid in the nets. In a game probably Toby Gray from Northern District.
Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?
Joel Davies vs Mosman last year in the two-day match was pretty impressive to watch. Hitting boundaries with basically 8 players on the fence to win outright.
Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?
It would be tough to choose between Jay Lenton and Lachy Shaw.
Independent Portable Buildings are a proud sponsor of Manly Cricket and Josh Seward
Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?
There’s a lot at the club, I’m very lucky. Ryan Hadley and Andrew Jamieson both stick out. Had’s work ethic and competitiveness on the field is a privilege to watch and Jamo has really helped me on the mental side of the game.
What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?
Leading with action and communication. I love a captain that plays on the front foot and is aggressive. A lot of the success at Manly comes from the captains making sure their players have a plan and then backing them to execute it.
Which singer/band would you like to see perform live?
Coldplay
Who’s the king of selfies at your club?
Cameron Merchant
Favourite city in the world to visit?
A two way battle between Kandy in Sri Lanka and Cappadocia in Turkey
Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?
I have to name two. Dad has been huge for me. He knows and loves the game as much as I do and he’s always in my corner. Additionally, any time you can spend as much time with Morne Morkel as I have it rubs off. His tactical focus on the game and the way he simplifies big moments has really helped me.
Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?
Giving up Rugby and AFL to focus on cricket is a big motivator and growing up with Joel (Davies) and always chasing him drives me. I’m always seeking to get to the level he is playing at and I’m stubborn enough to stick at it. So that’s probably two left field motivations.
Who are the three people in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?
David Attenborough, Aiden O’Brien and probably Josh Hazlewood
David Attenborough
What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?
I love my horse racing. So anytime I can get to the races, or the stables is where I feel most at home. I wanted to be a jockey when I was younger, until I went to the races and was taller than all of them. Being from Manly it’s also hard to go past going to the beach.
What do you do for work?
I’m working part time for BTX Racing who are a small horse racing micro-syndication company, and I’m in my first year at UTS doing Strategic Communications.
Do you have a favourite quote?
Dad has always told me “If it was easy, everyone could do it” that quote helps me deal with challenges and failure.
Can we ask what would it mean to you to play first class cricket and for your country?
Everything.
