Vale John Cheadle

Mosman Cricket Club is saddened to hear of the passing of Life Member John Cheadle. John passed away on Tuesday 12th September 2023, aged 95.

John Baines Cheadle started his cricket career with Mosman Cricket Club when he was selected in the Under 16 Green Shield team. He made his way through the grades and made his first-grade debut during the 1951-52 season.

John Cheadle is Mosman Cricket Club first grade player number 158.

In a first-grade career spanning 1951-52 to 1966-67 John played 193 innings and scored 4,464 runs at an average of 25.6. He scored 3 centuries, and his highest score was 122. He took 30 catches in first grade.

Overall, during John’s career with Mosman in all grades he scored 6,867 runs.

Cricket ran deep into John’s family with his two sons Christopher and Simon both playing first grade cricket for Mosman Cricket Club.

His granddaughter Heidi played first grade cricket for Gordon Women’s District Cricket Club, and currently plays for Georgians in Stockport, Greater Manchester. His grandson Nick played for Gordon District Cricket Club, and now plays for Northern District Cricket Club.


A Memorial Service will be held at 12.30pm on Tuesday, 10 October 2023, at Mosman Rowers.
