Q: Please find the following citation in nominating Ian Wright for Life Membership to be acknowledged at the upcoming SCC AGM on 12 September 2024.

Ian commenced with the Tigers in 2010 as a volunteer scorer for the Tigers 1st grade men’s and women’s teams and he has provided outstanding voluntary service to the women’s and men’s divisions over nearly 15 years. Ian, when available also scores and arranges umpires for the SCG XI matches, an aligned playing stream to the Sydney CC based at the SCG and has done so since 2009.

Q: Please find the following citation in nominating Colin Jefferies for Life Membership to be acknowledged at the upcoming SCC AGM on 12 September 2024.

Col was recruited to the Tigers by the legendary Australian Cricket administrator, Mr Fred Bennett in 1991, when Col was then the secretary of the inner west junior community cricket association. Fred, certainly a man difficult to reject, installed Col as Balmain Cricket Club secretary in 1992, a position he held through to 1997 before he turned his hand to the club history and picking up the historical work created by Cliff Winning (Life Member).

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

I love being able to play the sport that I love with my friends and being able to share the passion of the game with others who feel the same way. I also love that cricket is both a team and individual sport.

Q: Emily Powell is one of the many young guns coming through Sydney Cricket Club. After a strong under 16 national championships last year, she has started this season with three 50s in four games as an opener, and her sharp leggies are taking wickets.

I started playing cricket at age 11 and since then have played for Easts Dolphin Junior Cricket Club and then Sydney Cricket Club and have been a part of Cricket NSW Pathways.

My senior women's club debut in Brisbane for Western Suburbs District Cricket Club where I played a few seasons until I moved to the Gold Coast Dolphins. I also debut in Sydney Premier Grade Cricket in high school for Northern Districts but since coming down to NSW full time I've been with the Tigers since.

I started playing backyard cricket with my family in Ireland. Joined my first team Waterford CC as an 8-year-old. Later played for Cork Harlequins CC and Rush CC. Then moved to Australia and played in Wollongong and now Sydney Cricket Club.

Tell us about your cricket journey?

I started playing with Five Dock cricket club a tick over 20 years ago now. When I went off to high school I started playing cricket for my school and bounced around a few clubs outside of school cricket to try and get more out of summer. At 16 I got introduced to Sydney Cricket Club and haven’t looked back.

Q: Ian Wright has been scorer for Sydney Cricket Club in NSW Premier Cricket for 15 season and he is highly respected by all at our club and in the wider cricket community.

He has been selected as scorer for Test matches, WBBL/BBL, ODI’s and T20’s. Ian is Australian Test Scorer No. 113.

Q: Ian Davis is a proud former Balmain Cricket Club player who enjoyed his time playing for the Tigers during the 1980s.

He made his first grade debut in Sydney Grade Cricket with Northern District at the age of 16 and played grade cricket for Northern District, Gordon, Bankstown, Penrith, Balmain and Campbelltown. Davis captained Penrith to their first grade premiership in 1982-83

Davis played 15 Test matches scoring 692 runs at an average of 26.61 with one century and 4 half centuries.

Q: Greg Hayne is Sydney Cricket First Grade player number 426 and a proud member of the Tigers hall of Fame.

Greg was a prolific run scorer in Sydney Grade Cricket and is currently the 3rd highest run scorer in the competitions history.

He scored 12,354 runs at an average of 36.87 and hit 26 centuries and 65 half centuries. His highest score was 161. He scored 10,285 runs for the Tigers and 2,069 runs for Gordon when he played with the Stags from 1991 to 1994

Q: Andrew Jones was a strong and highly skilled left arm fast bowler who climbed through the grades at Balmain very quickly and made his first grade debut for Balmain in 1981 at just 17 years of age.

Andrew led the Balmain attack until he retired in 1997 after taking 449 first grade wickets at an average of 19.17. His best figures in first grade was 7 for 45 and he took 5 wickets in an innings on 20 occasions.

Q: Darren Tucker was a prolific run scorer in Sydney Grade Cricket having made his debut in 1980 at the age of 17.

From 1980 to 1991 Darren scored 5,616 runs at an average of 40.11 and hit 11 centuries and 32 half centuries. He spent many years in the NSW Sheffield Squad and has carved out a very successful business career.

In his first year of first grade Darren had the good fortune to share a partnership of 300 with one of the great legends of Australian cricket.

An extremely gifted and talented all-rounder Markham was 29 when he made his debut as he spent many years on the professional golf circuit.

As a first class golfer, you can only imagine how far he can hit a cricket ball.
