Josh Bayliss is a young opening batter at Sydney Cricket Club who finished the 2023-24 NSW Premier Cricket season in great style scoring his maiden century for the club in 3rd grade.
Off 68 balls Josh hit 5 sixes, 11 fours on his way to 104 not out to help Sydney defeat Mosman outright.

What year were you born?
2003
Tell us about your cricket journey.
I played all my junior cricket for Berowra Cricket Club and then I trialled for the Green Shield team at Sydney Cricket Club which has now been my home for 5 years.
If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?
I am a batting allrounder. In my batting, I am an aggressive batter. I try to dominate the game as early as possible. With bowling, I’m a spinner, who slowly tries to work over batsman.
What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?
The camaraderie I have with my fellow teammates. Spending all day Saturdays with 10 good blokes, trying to win a game of cricket. Also hitting long balls.
What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?
Last season, 104 not out against Mosman in 3rd grade. It was my first ever hundred!
Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?
Joe Root, as he is the definition of “consistency is key.

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?
Ben Manenti
Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?
Matt Rodgers, scored 166 for Sydney in the 2020/21 semi final against a Fairfield lineup that included Liam Hatcher and Arjun Nair. Going through 375 balls to draw and ensure Sydney moved into the grand final.
Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?
Hayden Forner, closely followed by Jackson Kent
Is there a young player in your club you’d like to nominate as a player to watch?
Daniel Craig
Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?
Damien Rapisarda and James Caparelli
What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?
Communication, fearlessness - I’d rather a captain that goes for the win, then play out a draw

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?
Dad, easily. Has been consistently there to almost every game I’ve played. Taught me the basic skills I need to progress my cricket. And always has a smile on his face no matter the result of my game.
Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?
Mum is always a bright face, making sure that I keep it light, but still gives me determination to compete while I play. And my Girlfriend- who is always there to support me no matter the outcome, and still encourages me to play my very best

Play finals cricket

It would mean the world, it’s what every young cricketer dreams of doing. It would be an honour to play and to pursue a career in cricket.
