Ian Wright - Life Member of Sydney Cricket Club – September 2024
Sydney Cricket Club | November 13, 2024
Please find the following citation in nominating Ian Wright for Life Membership to be acknowledged at the upcoming SCC AGM on 12 September 2024.
Ian commenced with the Tigers in 2010 as a volunteer scorer for the Tigers 1st grade men’s and women’s teams and he has provided outstanding voluntary service to the women’s and men’s divisions over nearly 15 years. Ian, when available also scores and arranges umpires for the SCG XI matches, an aligned playing stream to the Sydney CC based at the SCG and has done so since 2009.

“Wrighty” as he is affectionately known now, throughout all levels of cricket continues a history of success following the calibre and skills of people such as Ernie Cosgrove and Narelle Johnston in recent times, into the ranks of first class cricket and then Test Match cricket. This is the highest honour a match official can attain in cricket and our club is mighty proud of Wrighty’s achievements.
Ian is always there for the players - never misses a match at the club whenever he is not scoring at the elite level of cricket. His understanding of the game, the global connections he has now made, his dedication to the Tigers and the humility and respect he brings to the club can never be understated.
Ian takes every opportunity to support the organisations he represents, and this is reflected in the SCA awards he has achieved the NSW Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association highest honour, The Malcolm Gotham Scorers award in 2010/11.
Wrighty has also taken the time to mentor new talent into scoring most notably Harpreet Singh. He has toured and scored with the SCG XI domestically and internationally to numerous countries and he has created long standing relationships through his scoring capabilities.
Ian has always had a strong association with scorers across our club, notably Jen Holden, demonstrating the tenure of the integrated club model. As the game formats and new technologies have continued to evolve, so too has the time commitment and new skills required to interpret and manage each form of the game. Ian has continued to keep pace, and he is a constant in the scorers box and scoreboard operations at Drummoyne Oval for all cricket.
I commend Ian Wright, a highly credentialed match official, to be honoured with Life Membership of the Sydney Cricket Club.
