Join the Bears as they open their season with a massive T20 double header

UTS North Sydney District Cricket Club | September 06, 2024

The UTS North Sydney Bears are gearing up to get their season underway with a day/night T20 double header at North Sydney Oval on Saturday 21 September. As luck would have it, all three university clubs are in the same pool for the competition, and the Bears’ opposition for the big day are Sydney University (at 2pm) and UNSW (under lights at 6.30pm), so bragging rights as well as competition points are on the line!

The Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup competition follows the same format as last season, after the SCA restructured it to a more popular format of four pools of five teams with matches played in a block at the start of the season.

Last time around, the Bears finished fourth in Pool B after a 14-run loss to eventual Grand Finalists, Gordon in the final pool round saw their finals chances extinguished. The previous day, UTS North Sydney defeated Sydney under lights at Drummoyne, thanks to an unbroken partnership of 58 between Justin Avendano (76* off 59) and Tim Reynolds (27* off 12), and 3/18 for Nic Bills against his previous club. But the most exciting match of the campaign was against Sydney Uni, where the Students came out victors by just two wickets in a low-scoring thriller, so revenge is very much on our mind!

Big-hitting top-order batsman Tim Reynolds will look to take on attacks from ball one.

Under the new leadership of Mac Jenkins, the Bears have a young, talented side who are ready and raring to have a tilt at the First Grade T20 competition after winning the Poidevin-Gray under-21 competition last season. The double-header at North Sydney Oval provides an opportunity to see the Bears open their 2024-25 campaign and enjoy an afternoon and evening at the more beautiful ground in town.

NWS U19 spinner Everett Oxenham showed he was made of the right stuff to succeed in Sydney's top-flight while still at school.

There will be a BBQ in operation throughout and a bar open in the Mollie Dive Stand during the evening match, and an opportunity for kids to play on the hallowed turf between the two matches. A perfect day out for all the family!
