Pocket Profile: Max Farmer - Fairfield Liverpool Cricket Club

Fairfield Liverpool Cricket Club | September 14, 2023

Max Farmer made his first grade debut for Fairfield Liverpool Cricket Club in the first round of the 2022-23 cricket season against Eastern Suburbs.

A highly promising wicket keeper batter Max had played first grade at St George and has been in the NSW pathways for several seasons. Max has represented NSW Country Under 19s at the Australian Under 19 National Championships.

Here’s our quick pocket profile with Max

What year were you born?

4th October 2003

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?

Wicket Keeper batter

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

It’s gotta be playing with your mates and having a few laughs as well.

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?

A couple come to mind: making my 1st grade debut and playing at a couple of Under 19s national championships.

Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?

Ian Healy no doubt about it

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?

I’d say Josh Vernon from Western Australian - faced a quick spell from him last year.

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Toby Gray bowled super against us last season.

Who is the best spinner you’ve kept wicket to?

Arjun Nair

What’s been you’re favourite dismissal as a wicket keeper so far?

I was playing a game in Tamworth, and we were in a bit of trouble. Lachie Dowling was smoking them, and they needed about 14 to win and I came up to the stumps to one of our quicks. He sprayed one down leg side and it just stuck in the hand and I took the bails to stump Lachie. We ended up getting away with the win.

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

Jack Attenborough a few years ago in Poidevin Gray scored an unbelievable 150 against us. We had UNSW 7 or 8/100 chasing 300 and he didn’t miss time one all afternoon making sure he kept the strike and got his team home.

Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?

Jono Rose. I was fortunate enough to have him as a coach for a few years before getting to play a few games with him.

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

In terms of skill, I’ll go with Jayden Simmons and his ability to bat how he does as well as swing the ball both ways is incredible and for competitive spirit, I’ll go with the new man at the club Nick Carruthers just the way he goes about training. I can tell he hates losing.

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

Having a great understanding of the game is a big one and setting an example of the brand of cricket we want to play as a team.

Which singer/band would you like to see perform live?

Post Malone - I missed out last time he was here.

Who’s the king of selfies at your club?

Yuva Nishchay loves himself a little too much.

Favourite location, city or country as a holiday destination?

South West Rocks on the east coast of NSW. Great place to go for a fish and have a few beers.

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?

My dad. Always throwing balls, driving to and from cricket, words don’t do justice how much I appreciate that.

Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?

I hit the gym if I’m ever going through some rough times, you can usually catch me there.

Who are the three people in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?

Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Steve Smith

What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?

Outside of cricket you can find me out on the golf course, down at the pub with a couple of mates or at the footy

What do you do for work?

I work at a local pub in my hometown Raymond Terrace – The Junction Inn, best pub in town.

Do you have a favourite quote?

If you love what you do you never work a day in your life

What are your goals for the 2023/24 season?

Playing finals cricket would be good as we have a squad that can give it a good crack.

Can we ask, what would it mean to you to play first class cricket and for your country?

It would be a dream come true. I think every young cricketer has a dream of putting on the Baggy Green
