Parramatta District Cricket Club – Family Connections

The Parramatta District Cricket Club (then known as Parramatta and Central Cumberland Electorate Cricket Club) was one of the eight foundation clubs of the NSWCA Electorate Competition (now NSW Premier Cricket) on the 7th of October 1893 – the other clubs were East Sydney, Glebe, Manly, Paddington, Sydney University, Redfern and Canterbury.
Over the passage of time from those early days of grade cricket through to the modern era of the 21st century ‘Family Connections’ have played a large part in the Parramatta Cricket Story. Outlined below are several interesting facts on one branch of these family connections, Fathers and Sons, and First Grade involvement with the Parramatta Club.

Lou Benaud – sons Richie and John Benaud.
Lloyd Cadden – son Robert Cadden.
Tom Wood – son Michael A. Wood
Father and sons who have captured over 300 wickets in 1st Grade for Parramatta District Cricket Club:
Lou and Richie Benaud - according to the NSWCA library they are the only Father and Son combination to have achieved this feat at one Sydney grade club.
Father and Sons who have scored a century, and taken 5 wickets in an innings in 1st Grade for the Parramatta Club:

John Affleck and William Affleck – another son Tim scored 99.

(Robbie Aitken, and James Aitken scored a century for Parramatta in 1st grade and their father Bobby made 98).
Father and Sons to hold the office of Parramatta District Cricket Club President:
Ernie Gould (father) 1953 – 1960 and Wesley Gould (son) 1978 – 1981.
David Ferguson (father) 1988 – 2003 and Bradley Ferguson (son) 2003 – 2005 [another son Bruce was Deputy President 1984 – 88).
Father and Sons who have captured 5 Wickets in an Innings in 1st Grade for the Parramatta District Cricket Club:
William Peter ‘Old Bill’ Howell and sons William Hunter ‘Young Bill’, Arthur and Norman Howell.
