Q: My son is 15 and has been told if he doesn’t get selected in the pathways system, he probably won’t make representative teams in the future. Is this true and how can we help him, he so passionate.
A: Hi Alex,
A rather polarising statement that has been shared with you.
Cricket is now a global product in various formats, just because you are not selected in your local pathway system does not mean its the end of the world. Do some research on the amount of NSW players (Not pathway) current playing in other states. Do some research on Josh Brown of QLD, he defies all pathway programs. There are so many 20/20 products emerging all round the world that do not require a "pathway" qualification. If your son is committed and loves cricket he will fulfil his dreams. To stay passionate, keep playing the game of cricket and master his craft.

Q: What's the best way to know if a cricket bat is the right one for you?
A: Hey Larry, this is quite a personal question, as everyone is different and everyone's shots etc are different. These days it appears that there is a drive to have rather heavy bats ie 2.8lbs upwards. In years gone by, before technology was introduced as lot of big hitting players used weights for 2.3lbs or 2.4lbs, ie Viv Richards. Personal preference is something around 2.5 - 2.7lbs, allows for good bat speed and providing plenty of power. Have a feel of the back lift and quality of the willow used.
FYI..... if the bat scores runs for you its probably the right bat for you... ha ha hah a

Q: Does the captain of a cricket team have to be the best player in the team?
A: This is the where we get it sooooo wrong. Just because you are a good player does not mean you are a good leader. A captain is a leader at their core and does not need to be the best player. Unfortunately, this model stems from junior cricket. What we do is give the captaincy to the best player purely on principle of them being the best player, not for the correct reason of leading a team. Its time we start to create leaders in cricket at a young age. Imagine, we spent the same amount of time on creating leaders as we did as mastering our front foot cover drive....... the game and the world would be a better place.
A leaders fundamental objective is to create more leaders.
A good players fundamental objective is support the team and leaders objective.
