Pocket Profile - Shikha Pandey - Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club

Shikha Pandey made her debut for Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club Women’s first grade team on the 11 September 2022.

The game was against Sandgate Redcliffe and Shikha scored 112 and took 2 for 7 to help Wynnum Manly to a comprehensive 178 run win.

Shikha played the first 4 games of the season and returned to Wynnum Manly to play in the Brisbane T20 Max at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Shikha was first selected to play for her state Goa at the age of 17 and in 2014 she made her debut for India in all three formats, Test Cricket, One day Internationals and T20 cricket.

To date Shikha has played 3 Tests, 55 One Day Internationals and 62 T20 games for India.

Shikha is a self-confessed cricket geek, plays for the Delhi Capitals in the WIPL and is credited with bowling the ball of the century against Australia.

What year were you born?

1989

Tell us about your cricket journey. Where did you start junior cricket and the clubs you’ve played for in senior cricket.

I started when I was 18, played for my state of Goa. I’ve played in the IPL for Delhi Capitals and for my country India.

If you can share with our readers how you would describe yourself as a cricketer?

I’m a pace bowling all-rounder. 

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket? -

The friendships I have made and incredible places I have had the chance to visit. 

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?

Making my debut for India in March 2014.

What do you enjoy most about playing for Wynnum Manly District Cricket club?

I loved the people and the playing group at Wynnum a lot. They helped me greatly in falling back in love with the game. The people involved are so welcoming and kindhearted.

Shaun Pollock.

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?

Tayla Vlaeminck

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Sophie Ecclestone

Who is the best batter you’ve played with and against?

With and against Meg Lanning and Smriti Mandhana. 

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against? 

Sophie Devine against us in a T-20 game at Bangalore in 2015. She scored 70 off 22 balls. 

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Everyone at Wynnum Manly to be very honest.

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

Empathy at a human level and a good tactician of the game

My sister, Vibha Pandey

I love reading biographies and I am also blessed to have some great mentors.

Champions keep playing until they get it right.

It is a huge matter of pride and privilege to represent my country.
