Q: The Women's cricket program at Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club continues to go from strength to strength.
Starting out as a Friday evening social event and progressing to our first ever competitive team in 202-23 and narrowly missing a place in the final of the Plate competition, Women’s team was promoted to the Cup competition for 2023-24 season. In what was a very unbalanced but tough competition, the team performed remarkably well and coming into the last round had an excellent chance of making the semifinals. However, a washout killed that possibility.

question
Q: From Good Stock: Wicketkeeping Runs in the Family
Jake Hainsworth made a pivotal decision to join the Seagulls before the 2020 season, transitioning from Newcastle City to Stockton & Northern Districts in search of greater opportunities with the gloves. With a clear vision for his future, Hainsworth wasted no time in making his mark. Over his first four seasons, he has twice been named the NDCA Wicketkeeper of the Year and secured a place in the Newcastle Representative squad. His journey is a testament to his dedication and ambition, firmly establishing him as a standout talent within the club.
Wicketkeeping is a tradition in the Hainsworth family. Jake's uncle, Marcus, a long-standing wicketkeeper for Belmont and Newcastle, has been a major influence on Jake's cricketing career. This family legacy has undoubtedly played a role in shaping Jake's path and passion for wicketkeeping.
Stockton skipper Nick Foster credits Hainsworth's success to his "outstanding work ethic and willingness to learn and challenge himself." Foster adds, "Jake has a bright future and will no doubt push for higher honors over the coming seasons."
Beyond his on-field achievements, Jake has quickly emerged as a leader within the club, setting a strong example for others to follow.

Q: The next time you hear a Newcastle district cricketer whinge about traveling over the Stockton Bridge or down to Toronto for an away game, mention Ian Redpath.
The Stockton & Northern Districts batsman was without a doubt the most committed cricketer in town in the 2012-13.
During the 2012-13 pre-season, Redpath emailed every club in Newcastle requesting a chance to play.
Six replied, and because he had relatives in Stockton and an offer from the club to provide accommodation if required, Redpath chose the Seagulls.

Q: Jaymes Thomas joined Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club from nearby Raymond Terrace for the 2013-14 season.
The Seagulls were coming off a strong 2012-13 campaign finishing 5th but the 2013-14 season was a tough on with the club finishing at the bottom of the ladder. The recruitment of youngster Thomas proved to be a master stroke.
Not only did the club have an outstanding season in 2014-15 by reaching the Grand Final against Merewether and defeating University outright in the Semi Final but Jaymes Thomas took out the Newcastle District Cricket Association wicketkeeper of the year award with a staggering 49 dismissals to cap off an amazing second season.

Q: Dr. Barbour, playing for Stockton for a few seasons, has been able to form a shrewd idea as to the conditions and possibilities of cricket in Newcastle district. Here he makes an appeal to the Association at headquarters to assist a little more, for Newcastle has a splendid population, some fine grounds, and a great many players.
It is pleasing to be able to record that, after several lean post-war years, cricket in Newcastle is again coming into its own. Over 60 teams competed this year in the four competition grades controlled by the N.D.C.A., while another 18 club teams played under the aegis of the City and Suburban Association.

question
Q: Saturday 16th October 2010 saw one of the great first grade debuts in the long history of Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club and it was a debut that nearly didn't happen.
The debutant was Benn West and his teammates didn’t know what was happening when the former Randwick-Petersham bowler rushed to his car and left the ground before the start of play against Merewether on Saturday.
It was West’s first appearance for the club.
Captain Terry Crittenden explained that West had snapped a knee brace and had to buy another one.
He returned 40 minutes later and took a match-turning 7-52 from 16 overs, including the big scalps of Simon Moore (47) and Troy Goodwin (11).
Not a bad effort for a man with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The injury forced the 33-year-old to sit out last season, but, with the aid of the brace, he is now able to bowl.
‘‘The brace really helps,’’ said West, who works as an exercise physiologist.
‘‘Some people function fine without an ACL, depending on the hamstring strength they have.
‘‘I spent a year or more strengthening my hamstring, my quadriceps and all the muscles surrounding the knee. At some stage I will get a reconstruction but not this year.’’
West played four seasons in Sydney, working his way up from fifth grade, and has taken up a role as bowling coach at Stockton, mainly working with the young quicks.
‘‘Coaching is something I enjoy,’’ he said.
‘‘Through my background in exercise physiology I can help with strength training, conditioning
and core strength which is exactly what you need to do as a bowler in preparation for a game.
‘‘After missing last season it is just good to be back involved.’’

Q: A Moment in Time!
On Sunday, January 18, 2009, the Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club faced Tamworth in the SCG Cup Final. This match was a significant event for the Stockton community and in particular for the Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club. Numerous members and supporters filled buses and made the journey down the F3.
Despite the presence of future test cricketers Josh Hazelwood and Graham Onions, as well as several former and future NSW Country representatives, the on-field action wasn't enough to keep some young members of the Stockton Junior Cricket Club from playing their own game behind the members stand at the SCG.
Several of the kids in the photo went on to play First Grade for the Seagulls. Can you name them?

Q: For over 50 years Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket club have welcomed a host of talent from coalfields of the Hunter Valley, and the history of cricketing coalminers at the seaside club might surprise you.
Over the years Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club has had a remarkable and famously close relationship with the Coalfields area of the Hunter Valley and that longstanding bond continues to thrive today.
Formed in 1888, the seaside club based at the iconic Lynn Oval in Stockton has been a home away from home for many a cricketer looking to forge a path and test their skill in the Newcastle Cricket competition.

Q: Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club is pleased to announce that David Redden has been awarded Life Membership at our annual presentation dinner Queens Wharf Hotel on Saturday evening.
It is hard to put in to words what David has done for Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club.
David was introduced to the club by former Seagull Trent Colley and ever since David has filled the role of 1st Grade Manager along with a variety of other roles within the club. As anyone who knows David will know, the work he gets through and selflessness he shows is nothing short of extraordinary.
David has been a constant pillar of strength through the ups and downs. Always a great sounding board, a voice of reason, a shoulder to cry on and a friend to everyone that crossed his path. His ability to build relationships is remarkable and he is widely respected and loved not only within our club but also within the Newcastle and Country Cricket community.
In addition to his roles with our club, David has been a magnificent ambassador for our club as long serving manager of Newcastle Colts and Senior Representative teams and the NSW Bush Blues. David was also recently awarded Life Membership of Country Cricket NSW.
It would be remiss not to mention the contribution of David's wife Merrillie, who has supported his commitment to the club. Thank you Merrillie!
We are immensely proud to honour David Redden with Life Membership of our club. A seagull for life!

Q: David Redden joined Stockton & Northern Districts Cricket Club in 2014-15 and and quickly became an integral part of not only the Stockton & Northern Districts Club but also Newcastle Cricket. It is safe to say that David has a love for cricket and in particular grassroots and country cricket that is hard to match.
David has been involved in cricket for many years but this Q&A does not do justice to the impact he has had on the many people, teams and organisations he has been part of. Throughout the Q&A, David was typical modest and reluctantly gave insights into his life in cricket. He has not only achieved an enormous amount but tellingly he has helped countless others achieve their goals and success. A friend to many, his commitment, passion and professionalism rubs off on those around him. David Redden typifies what is great about our sport and is truly one of a kind!
