My cricket cap collection. From left to right with the fifth row being the back row
Fifth Row
CCC Tour of Australia 1988 - regional Indian Team played against our Sandgate Redcliffe First Grade side, we won none down for just over 200. Trevor Barsby and I both got unbeaten hundreds. A few blokes in our side were a bit upset as it was mid week game and they took sickies from work and didn't get a bat.
WB (sky blue) - Wide Bay, swapped this one at under 16 State Championships with Peter Drinnen, I was in Brisbane North team.
Wanderers Cricket Club - I used to play for them in their midweek games against the GPS schools when I worked for Qld Cricket
WACA Under 19 cap - swapped at the 1987 National Championships with Karl Langdon, he went onto play for the West Coast Eagles
VNJC - Valleys North Junior Zone - swapped with Geoff Foley I think in under 16's, I played for Redcliffe & Districts.
Fourth Row
Zone 6 Redcliffe and Districts Junior cap, this one is mine from Under 14's
Brisbane North Secondary Schoolboys (green) - played for them in 1983-85. State Champions in 1983.
Brisbane South Secondary Schoolboys (light blue) - swapped with Ken Healy we played in 1984 State side together against NSW in Maryborough.
Darling Downs Junior Regional Cap - swapped with one of their players, can't recall which one, might have been under 14's.
Third Row
Queensland Under 15 juniors - I was selected as Captain of this side and we played for a week in Brisbane against Qld Under 14's, NSW under 15 and NSW Country Under 15,s
NSW Secondary Schoolboys State Cap (sky blue), swapped with Scott Hookey. Games were played in Maryborough, we won the one day game but were beaten in the 3 day game. This was a pretty wild trip for a schoolboy trip.
Redcliffe Kippa Ring Junior (black), my one and only junior club I played for, pretty sure I would still hold the run scoring and century records there.
Brisbane Region Over 50's Veterans (White & Red), this our regional 50's comp cap
Sandgate Redcliffe First Grade Premiership Cap 1999-2000 season. My last game of First Grade for the Club before injury forced retirement. I was unbeaten on 45 when the winning runs were hit by Gavin Fitness off Joe Dawes at Allan Border field. This was an awesome game of cricket that nearly finished on day 1.
QCA Colts First Grade (blue). There used to be only 9 clubs in Brisbane Grade Cricket and Colts team evened out the draw as the 10th side until Gold Coast came into the competition. Qld Cricket appointed the coach then each club nominated two under 21 players for the squad. We had a great first year I played and ran second and lost the semi-final against Wests. We were 2-158 chasing 175 and lost by 3 I think. Dick Tazelaar took 8 wickets for Wests. Our side had Stuart Law, Peter Drinnen, Joe Scuderi, Geoff Foley and a couple of other very good players and unfortunately we just couldn't get over the line.
Second Row
Queensland Colts - played for the Syd Gregory Cup in matches against NSW in 1988 and 1989, as well as other games against the initial Cricket Academy team, Australian Defense Force Team, Australian Universities and Queensland Country.
Queensland Shield Cap - only ever got to be 12th man in First Class Cricket for Queensland but played a couple of One Day games against the West Indies.
Brisbane West Secondary Schoolboys (green and yellow) swapped with their captain in 1985.
Redcliffe Primary Schoolboys Representative (Maroon) for State Championships in 1980.
Sandgate Redcliffe Under 18 Premiership Cap 1984-85.
First Row
Australian Over 50's Cap - World Cup 2018 winning side in Sydney.
Qld Second XI - played quite a few games and the highlight was we got to play a game with Barry Richards when he was CEO at Qld Cricket against Qld Country at Maryborough. He got a few runs in and was not out at the end. This would have been around 1990. Matt Hayden got a hundred, as he did
Qld Veterans Over 50's - National Championship Cap
West Indies One Day playing cap - swapped with Richie Richardson after our game against them in Cairns. He only wore the wide brim hat and he gave me his after I batted against Malcolm Marshall in a cap. Bit of story to that as Qld Cricket would not give you a helmet unless you had played Shield Cricket so I batted without one, because Ken Healy did not want to bat and his helmet did not fit me. Stuart Law saved my life by telling Malcolm it was not a sign of disrespect.
