My best grade team - Scott Atkinson 1986 to 2008
Scott Atkinson | January 13, 2023
I left my home town of Condoblin in Western NSW at the age of 18 with the dream of playing cricket in Sydney and beyond.
I started playing with Mosman Cricket Club in 1986 and in 1993 I moved to Western Suburbs for 3 seasons.
Work took me away from Sydney however I continued to play in various locations throughout NSW and Victoria. In fact at the ripe old age of 40 I made my first grade debut for the Camberwell Magpies in the Victoria Premier Cricket. They tell me I was the 4th oldest player to make my first grade debut in Victoria Premier Cricket.
Cricket has always been the one constant, it’s a passion. I’ve had the good fortune to play with so many quality cricketers and selecting my best grade team wasn’t easy. In batting order here’s my team.
1. Wayne Seabrook – Mosman
2. Anthony McQuite – Western Suburbs
3. Simon Hill – Camberwell
4. Peter Burkhart – Western Suburbs
5. Gary Bensley – Mosman and Captain
6. Scott Jaconson – Mosman
7. Paul Ryan – Mosman, Western Suburbs and Wicket Keeper
8. Greg Rowell – Mosman
9. Steve Nikitaras – Western Suburbs
10. Daniel Horsley – Western Suburbs
11. Tom Shiner – Western Suburbs
I've posted before that there should be an international wicket keepers day. I love my keepers and love to catch up with them when the opportunity presents. P.S. I was 18 when I went to Sydney to play for the Bears. Lots of trials and tribulations but I learned a lot about cricket and about myself, on reflection. As 18 year olds we had a dream didn't we. No baggy green for us but a hell of lot of life experience. Best wishes to you and yours mate 🙂💗
