Vale John Aitken

Auburn Cricket Club | November 08, 2023

It is with great sadness to report the passing on Monday evening of former Auburn legend, John Aitken.

John had a long and distinguished playing career that started as a young player with Auburn, he then a long-playing period in Premier Grade Cricket, with Parramatta DCC (formerly known as Central Cumberland DCC), before finishing off his playing career with Auburn.

John was a tough competitor on the field but always willing to offer and impart his vast general and technical knowledge of the game to anyone keen to learn and improve their cricket.

Over the years John played a huge role in the development and careers of a wide cross section of players from different levels of the game.

John was well liked and respected throughout the cricket community, and you would not find a more passionate lover of the game of cricket than John.

The esteem in which John was held was demonstrated when he was made a Life Member of the Sydney Cricket Association and the Parramatta District Cricket Club.

John Aitken’s playing career statistics are:

Auburn DCC (all grades):

174 Games 908 runs @ 21.62

117 wickets @ 12.24

30 Catches

Parramatta DCC: (all grades)

1958/59 to 1990/00 42 years

8,377 runs @22.14

626 wickets @ 19.29

Rest in peace JA, you played a fantastic innings.
