Waratah Mayfield Cricket Club 2nd Grade win the Royce McCormack Cup 2020-21
Waratah Mayfield Cricket Club first piece of silverware for the 2020-21 was won by the clubs 2nd grade team going undefeated in the one-day competition.
After finishing on top through the pool rounds, the boys earnt a home Grand Final hosting Charlestown at Waratah Oval.
Charlestown won the toss and had a bat. We didn't have to wait long for the first action, with Irfan Ali picking up wickets in consecutive balls to have them 2/0 in the third over. Robert Hill then picked up the 3rd wicket, bowling a tight opening spell to put the pressure on.
Jono Twomey (4/10 off came on first change and was near unplayable, with his spell having Charlestown reeling at 7/37 halfway through their innings. Charlestown had a bit of a fightback for the 8th wicket with Winpenny (29) pushing the total up, with Jacob Hill (2/19) cleaning up the tail after a strong spell to have them all out for 80.
Olivier Koehn (40*) and Toby Chillingworth got us off to a fantastic start in the chase, and skipper Josh Brackenbury (36* off 28) got it finished quickly. A 9 wicket win with 19 overs to spare sums up a dominant performance from the Tahs.
